Sriwijaya Air targets Indonesia regional market with launch of full-service subsidisry Nam Air

Quote:
Competition in Indonesia’s dynamic domestic market has increased another notch with the launch of Sriwijaya full-service subsidiary Nam Air. Sriwijaya, Indonesia’s third largest airline group after Lion and Garuda, is using Nam to expand its presence in the fast-growing regional market.

Nam Air commenced operations on 10-Dec-2013 and is currently operating one daily Boeing 737-500 flight between Jakarta and Pangkal Pinang, a trunk route also served by Lion, Garuda and Sriwijaya. Six more domestic routes are planned as part of Nam’s initial phase, including five routes connecting secondary markets which are new to the Sriwijaya group. Four of these routes are currently not served by Lion or Garuda.

Sriwijaya could have used Nam to enter the budget end of the market, which has accounted for most of the recent growth in Indonesia but has become fiercely competitive. The group has instead positioned Nam as a full-service carrier with a similar product to Sriwijaya Air but a different network strategy, targeting point-to-point markets which are relatively thin but are underserved and have big potential.

Halim Perdanakusuma to Open for New Domestic Flights This Week

Quote:
Halim Perdanakusuma airport in East Jakarta will begin servicing several new domestic commercial flights this Friday.

“I am currently checking on the readiness of airport, and I can see that everything is good,” Vice President Boediono said while inspecting the airport on Wednesday. “In line with the plans of Angkasa Pura, this airport will be opened [for domestic flights] on Jan. 10.”

Although four airlines have agreed to fly out of Halim, only Citilink, the budget subsidiary of flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, will begin operating there this month. Citilink will serve flights to Malang, Semarang and Yogyakarta.

The three other airlines — Garuda Indonesia, AirAsia and Batik Air — will gradually move some of their flights to Halim.

Boediono said that using Halim for commercial flights should alleviate some of the burden on Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

The government is eventually planning to expand Halim Perdanakusuma, although the vice president didn’t go into detail.

Herry Bakti Singayuda Gumay, the director general for air transportation at the Transportation Ministry, said that Halim will be able to serve 10 flights per hour, or 126 per day.

He added that all the flights departing from Halim will have been previously served by Soekarno-Hatta.

“One of the requirements is that there should be no new routes,” he said. “Halim will just accommodate flights that were previously operating out of Soekarno-Hatta airport.”

Furthermore, Herry said that an evaluation will be conducted regarding road access to the airport.

“We will evaluate this as we move forward. We will also coordinate with the Jakarta administration to overcome the probability of congestion on the way to Halim airport,” he said.

The airport currently only has one access road. Only a few domestic flights currently take off from Halim Airport — scheduled and charter carrier Susi Air flies to Cilacap and Pangandaran from Halim, while the airport’s hajj terminal ferries pilgrims to and from Saudi Arabia during the hajj season.

The CGK-London non stop route will be delayed again until september 2014.
However, from 30 may 2014 the CGK-AMS route will be served by the 777-300ER nonstop (no AUH stop anymore) and will be reduced from 6 to 5 times a week BUT will be extended to London.

Garuda Eyes Five New Routes
Zoom Out Zoom In Normal
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Garuda Indonesia's executive vice president for marketing and sales, Erik Meijer, said that Garuda Indonesia is considering to open several new routes in the near future.

"We will open new destination to Jeddah in the next two weeks which is in May 1 from Makassar with transit in Medan," he said on Sunday.

According to Erik, the flight uses the same aircraft for Surabaya-Jeddah route which is Boeing 747 with a capacity of 454 passengers. There will also be additional Surabaya-Jeddah and Makassar-Jeddah direct routes so that passengers do not have to transit.

Another new route that will also be opened in the next two weeks from Surabaya Juanda Airport is Surabaya-Banyuwangi-Denpasar flight. "This flight will use Boeing AVR 72600 aircraft with a capacity of 70 passengers," said Erik.

Other new three routes are Surabaya-Jember, Surabaya-Ambon, and Surabaya-Medan, which will be available in June if the airport in Jember can be completed fast. "So we can also have small routes," he said.

Although it's funny that they say the Jember airport isn't finished yet, since it has been used for commercial flights some years ago.

Garuda Indonesia set to
open Surabaya-Jember route
in June
Garuda Indonesia has established a new Surabaya-Jember route, utilizing the ATR-600 aircraft, which can seat 70 passengers.

“We hope that this will be ready to operate in June and Garuda Indonesia will be the pioneer of Surabaya-Jember flight route and vice-versa,” said Garuda Indonesia sales and marketing director Erik Meijer in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday as quoted by Antara news agency.

He said the airline was currently waiting for Notohadinegoro Airport Jember to finalize its preparations to accommodate the flights .

“The Surabaya Jember route will be eventually include a third destination, Denpasar, Bali. So, we want to connect people in Jember to two cities [Surabaya and Bali],” Meijer further said.

Garuda Indonesia also plans to use the same aircraft to serve the Surabaya-Banyuwangi route.

Meijer said the inaugural flight from Juanda Airport in Surabaya to Blimbingsari Airport in Banyuwangi was a step the right direction toward strengthening domestic services.

“The inaugural flight take off in May and al, the preparations have been made. We this will go a long way to support the development and progress of cities in East Java,” said Meijer.

Separately, East Java Governor Soekarwo warmly welcomed Garuda Indonesia’s plan to operate new routes between Surabaya, Jember and Banyuwangi.

“The presence of flight services to Jember and additional flight services to Banyuwangi will contribute to the province's economy,” he said. (ebf)

Sriwijaya, NAM Air to add
6,900 extra seats for holiday
season

The country's third largest carrier Sriwijaya Air and its subsidiary NAM Air will provide 6,900 extra seats to meet a surge in demand due to the Good Friday holiday.

Sriwijaya Air is adding more seats to its Denpasar-Dili, Surabaya-Semarang, Jakarta-Tanjung Pandan, Jakarta-Malang and Surabaya-Makassar routes, by, for example, in the case of the Denpasar-Dili service, increasing flights on Monday, Friday and Sunday to twice daily.

Meanwhile, NAM Air will provide extra flights for its Surabaya-Denpasar route on April 17 and 20, increasing its scheduled flights to two on those dates.

Sriwijaya senior corporate communications manager Agus Soedjono said that both airlines were monitoring demand and there was a possibility that even more seats would be added over the long weekend.

"We predict that the demand from customers will still increase in the next few days. We encourage our customers to immediately book their flights," Agus said in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Monday.

Sriwijaya currently operates 36 planes consisting 15 Boeing B737-500s, 12 B737-300s, five B737-400s and four B737-800 Next Generation (NG). NAM Air operates two B737-500s. (nfo)

well, I'm still wondering why Garuda never put their 747-400 on their corporate video since late 2010? I know Garuda always planning to phase their two 747 both of PK-GSG and PK-GSH but until now they're never put 747-400 on their fleet list WTH Garuda?

From 1st plan Garuda will have only operate Boeing 737-800, Airbus 330-200/300, and Boeing 777-300ER NOW Garuda already added CRJ-1000 and also ATR 72-600 on their fleet
