Nice, another roaring Trent flying. Hopefully either the A359 or A339 will replace it in the future - that would be great!

NAM Air to connect Yogyakarta and Palembang this week

Quote:
NAM Air, a subsidiary of the country’s third-largest carrier ,Sriwijaya Air, is set to connect Yogyakarta and Palembang, South Sumatra, on Aug. 20 to capture the growing demand for flights between the two cities.

NAM will be operating a Boeing B737-500 aircraft to serve the route with eight business class seats and 112 economy seats.

The carrier is scheduled to leave Adisucipto Airport in Yogyakarta at 10:35 a.m. every day and arrive at Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II in Palembang at 12:15 p.m. The aircraft would then return to Yogyakarta from Palembang at 2:35 p.m., arriving in Yogyakarta at 4:15 p.m.

“This is our commitment to integrate Sriwijaya Air and NAM Air flight services so that together we can enhance domestic route connectivity,” Sriwijaya Air senior corporate communications manager Agus Soedjono said in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

Agus said the airline was optimistic the load factor would be healthy and that the flight service would be an alternative for those who wished to travel between Yogyakarta and Palembang directly without having to transit in Jakarta. (nfo)

Bump...

I've got a question for you: would you like to see a thread dedicated to just Lion Air carriers since it is quite a large group of airlines operating under one roof? That way, I can have this thread be split up into three distinct groups:

- Garuda Indonesia (which includes Citilink)
- Lion Air Group (which includes Lion Air, Wings Air, and Malindo Air, among others)
- this thread, which will cover the smaller Indonesian carriers

I am also looking at shuffling AirAsia Indonesia to become a part of the AirAsia Airline Group, which involves multiple ventures within the continent.

Let me know if you're up for that plan or you want to keep this structure for now.

Yes please- let's group airlines by parent group. Don't forget Indonesia Air Asia Extra in AirAsia group.

I think that's a pretty good idea. But to be honest, there is't much discussion left for the other carrier here, since they are too small to make any impact on the global scale. There is no need to open another thread dedicated to other airlines in Indonesia beside Garuda Indonesia group (GA,QG) and Lion Air Group (JT,IW,ID,OD,SL). Adding QZ and XT to AirAsia Group, and RI (if they could ever fly again) to Tigerair Group is just fine for me.

Garuda Indonesia is to be confirmed as the world's newest 5-Star Airline

11th December 2014 - London, UK

Skytrax have confirmed that Garuda Indonesia is to be announced as the newest member of the exclusive group of 5-Star Airlines.

Commenting on the 5-Star Airline rating to be announced, Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax said: "This is recognition of the major turnaround in quality standards at Garuda Indonesia, reflecting the hard work by the airline in recent years, and we delighted to confirm that they are now meeting the 5-Star Airline. This rating is based on an all-round assessment of the product and service, onboard and at the airport. We place a lot of importance on the fact that the majority of customers travel in Economy and it is the quality and consistency of those standards that contribute greatly to Garuda securing 5-Stars. Consistency of an airline's product and service is a major part of the 5-Star rating, with Garuda's long haul fleet now offering Business Class flat-bed seating and 32-34 inch seat pitch in Economy Class. Customers can also experience the new First and Business Class 5-Star service concept rolled out across the Boeing 777-300ER fleet."

This 5-Star Airline rating also takes account of planned airport and service changes in 2015, when Garuda will transfer to the new Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, it's home base hub. This will provide a new home for Garuda Indonesia and SkyTeam member airlines, improving the travel experience through enhanced transfers and airport service, together with improved and expanded premium passenger facilities.

Garuda Indonesia has one of the youngest fleets in Asia with an average aircraft age of just 4.02 years (December 2014), consisting of 130 aircraft, and due to grow to 145 aircraft in 2015.

The "Garuda Indonesia Experience" brings hospitality, culture, and everything best from Indonesia through five senses, namely sight, sound, taste, scent, and touch, to be implemented in the service of pre-journey, pre-flight, in-flight, post-flight, and post journey.

Congratulations to Garuda Indonesia for being upgraded into 5* airlines... Finally! After years of struggles, they deserve this title, obviously!

Garuda Inks Deals to Buy 30 Jets From Airbus, Up to 60 From Boeing

Quote:
Jakarta. Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia intends to purchase up to 30 new wide-body aircraft from European plane maker Airbus and up to 60 from its US rival Boeing.

Both manufacturers released statements at the Paris Air Show on Monday that said the Indonesian state-controlled airline had signed letters of intent to purchase the new jets.

Airbus announced that Garuda planned to buy 30 of its new A350 XWB passenger jets, while Boeing said the airline intended to buy 30 787-9 Dreamliners and up to 30 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

“Following our success in revitalizing our regional operation in Asia and the Pacific, the development of our long haul network will be a priority in the coming years,” Arif Wibowo, Garuda’s chief executive, said in the statement released by Airbus.

Airbus said Garuda planned to use the new wide-body planes, able to fly from Jakarta or Bali to Europe non-stop, to expand its medium- and long-haul networks.

John Leahy, Airbus’s chief operating officer, said the new jet, which first went into commercial service in January with Qatar Airways, was performing well.

Sriwijaya Air

RI airlines place big orders during Paris Airshow

Quote:
Indonesian airlines have placed big orders for new aircraft during the ongoing Paris Airshow despite the country’s economic slowdown, which has caused severe financial problems for some of them.

Private carrier PT Sriwijaya Air Group (Sriwijaya Air) president director Chandra Lie signed an agreement on Tuesday with Boeing Company executive vice president global sales John Wojick to buy two Boeing 737-900 ER during the Paris Air Show.

The deal was made just a day after the national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia signed an order for 90 new planes, also during the show.

Sriwijaya’s corporate communications senior manager Agus Soedjono said that the agreement also stipulated the carrier’s intention to order another 20 units of aircraft from Boeing.

“We are also planning to order 20 Boeing 737s, as we aim at expanding our domestic and international network and also increase our flight frequency given the increasing number of air transportation passengers every year,” Agus told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

According to Agus, the two Boeing 737-900 ER aircraft will be delivered in July and August this year.
