Are you sure about this? Isn't it runway 6 was for the smaller type aircrafts and domestics like 737s and such? Unlike runway 72 where it's wider longer aircrafts like 747s, 777 or a340s for international flights mostly? I think they meant widenning and no so much of lenthening since there is no room for a much longer runway in the area. First of all the airport terminal itself hasn't been modified to accomodate the docking of the new a380 so why expnd the runway when there is no clear plan of having an a380 enroute in Manila yet?

There was a front page picture of The Philippine Star with a caption which stated that one of the two runways (I dunno if it was 6/something) was being expanded to accomodate A380s. The photo showed Malaysia Airlines and some other airlines lining up for take off. I also heard the same reason from the pilot of SQ 071 when he explained why it will take us 8 minutes before we can take off.

My choice would have to go towards SHIA. It in itself is pretty unique for an airport. It's definitely a break from the usual (up and coming airports with western inspired facades and interiors and glass galore). SHIA really does remind the traveller (esp. tourists) that you have arrived in (or almost reaching) paradise.

That said, I'm still pretty aggrivated that we still can't use NAIA terminal 3 yet.

Well, you know how some news there are unreliable. I mean, just come to think of it, when those airports in other countries are preparing for the arrival of the a380, they made modifications in their runways and at the same time, modified a docking are that would accomodate these super jumbo jet. Why would manila prepare for teh A380 when there are no airlines expressing their plans to send a380 on MNL. As far as I'm concern, there are only very few airports in the world that started preparing for the A380, even here in the US, none of the airports or even terminals are designed for this. As far as I know, it would be, Singapore, HK, thailand, australia, UK, and a few others ar the only ones who are preparing for it because they are sure these type of aircrafts will be enroute in their hub in the near future.

Personally, if they maintained NAIA-1, it would be a very nice airport. When you think about it, NAIA-1 has some Filipino-inspired design of some sort.
I like the lighting treatment..

It kind-of reminds me of Rice Terraces, or San Miguels HQ in Ortigas...

I hate that in NAIA 1 if you leave the waiting area to go to the bathroom, etc., when you go back, you have to go through all the security processes all over again...

I like the design of NAIA 1 but it really needs renovation, especially the arrivals area (from floor to ceiling). The departure and arrivals lobbies are impressive but passengers don't appreciate them because the terminal can get really busy. I haven't been to the terminal 2 though but looking at the pictures, it's a modern airport.

SHIA has a very unique design and it looks very spacious. The layout is organized, compared to NAIA's. I agree with the other forumers that the passengers would feel that they are in Indonesia.

Do you? Which waiting area are you talking about?
