Fraport wants fresh start in PH
Quote:
Fraport AG, the German transport company which wrote off $400 million in investments at the Ninoy Aquino third airport terminal wants a fresh start in the Philippines.

Michael Muller, director of Fraport said that it is looking at other business opportunities in the country like in airport services—security and ground handling—but not in building airport terminals.

DOTC Postpones Awarding of PPP Contract for Mactan-Cebu Airport

http://anc.yahoo.com/news/dotc-postp...081446552.html

ANC – Mon, Jan 6, 2014

Once again, there's a delay in the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Project.Without specifying the final date, the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Bids and Awards Committee has postponed the issuance of notice to award the contract to construct, operate, and manage the airport. This notice would have been given to Megawide and the Bangalore-based GMR Infrastructure, which won last month's bidding, with P14.4 billion.DOTC Sec. Jun Abaya said, issues raised against Megawide must first be resolved before the contract is awarded.Megawide's proposal was earlier questioned by the Filinvest-CAI Airport, citing a conflict of interest and questionable financial capabilities. The multi-billion airport project has previously been hounded by delays as government tried to figure out how to make the project more enticing to investors.

The project intends to expand the country's second largest airport that would help decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. The Mactan-Cebu Airport will be the first airport project to be bid out under the Aquino government's public-private partnership (PPP) program.Aside from the Mactan-Cebu Airport, a new airport is set to be constructed in Bohol through the PPP program to replace the existing Tagbilaran Airport. The DOTC is looking for a Japanese bidder for the Panglao Airport as the project would be funded through a loan from the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA).The signing of the contract for the Cebu airport has been scheduled on Feb. 6.

Big bump...

From today, you can discuss everything about Philippine Airports (except Manila, which has its own thread) and Aviation in this thread. That way, you can have an avenue to discuss current and future aviation trends in the archipelago.

Huh... it looks pretty small for a full-time international airport, yet I believe it can be expanded over time if there is ample space available to make more international flights from Legazpi possible. I know its destinations at the moment include Manila and Cebu, but I wonder if it will have flights to Seoul, Tokyo, or Hong Kong so that passengers from around Bicol can use the airport instead of flying via Manila or Cebu.
