Honestly I'll go with Soekarno Hatta

It has that Indonesian feel to it!

NAIA's Terminal 3 looks ok but all three terminals lack uniform!

By the way, doesn NAIA Terminal 3 have that digitized flight info screen board just like the one in Chek Lap Kok. When I was in Terminal 1 they were using the traditional flicker board!

even the city vs city closed , there is always Manila vs Jakarta thread

For interior i will go for NAIA for exterior I'll go for SHIA

honestly i like modern airport ! (no offence to Indo forumers SHIA never impressed me except the design)

The Jakarta one they just need to do some upgrade, make it looks nicer and of course install with the lastest gadget !

result: Tie !

But the SHIA is a modern building with traditional Indonesian elements. Unfortunately, NAIA doesn't have these elements except Terminal 3

hi everyone!!
I love modern look but many airports nowadays look so modern (and off course high-tech so to say) they lose sense of identity. I've travelled a lot, for example I've been to HK, S'pore, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney and the UK, the airports there are all fantastic, although I've never been to Indonesia (hopefully in the future!!) but from the photos I've seen, it will be remembered. Remembered for the feelings it'll give to many visitors as welcoming/inviting. From the photos, SHIA feels like a resort or something. Most modern airports gave you the "Wow!" feeling when you entered their terminals but I think SHIA, from the look of it, it will give you (or at least for me) the homey and comfy feeling. Sorry I hope I'm not to 'mushy' in
describing airports. (its just airports for god sake...he he)

However the landscape can be improved or upgraded. Some changes of the exterior could do no harm.

I'll go with SHIA although NAIA terminal 3 is pretty OK too.

NAIA ,opened in 1948,will be operational till 2012 when the brand new Clark International Airport (located in Clark, 80 kms north of Manila) will be finally completed. That's because NAIA cannot expand anymore yet there are still airport-related developments in the area, including a proposed Marriott Airport hotel, an international convention center and an entertainment park.

The old Manila International Airport

This year is 2006 but NAIA 3 is still not opened yet.
And you said NAIA will be operational till 2012!!!!
It's very short period for NAIA 3, just about 6 year!

What will NAIA/NAIA 3 be after Clark International Airport opened?

and whoaaa..... 80 km from Manila!!! That's quite far.

I'm impressed by the layout and landscaping of Jakarta airport, as well as the incorporation of traditional Javan design. With Manila's NAIA, I like the slick and elegant interiors of Terminals 2 and 3, with its clever use of light and space. However, the Terminal 1 building is crap - sorry to put it that way. It looks like a giant tomb.

No matter if NAIA 3 opens or not, the government will still close NAIA by 2012 to 2014.
If it closes, NAIA may become yet another business park in the Metro.

A high-speed modern railway is already on the works. It will make travel to Clark from Manila and vise-versa just half the time. The expressway to Clark was recently renovated and is now one of the most modern in Asia, similar to the ones found in France.

jakarta's airport was planned well... while manila's airport was just expanded... jakarta's airport has a very traditional design... while manila's airport has a very glassy modern look...

i see no clash. its a tie.

There is already an operating Clark International Airport. Budget airlines usually use this airport. But 15 years from now, this international gateway will expand and may become the largest in the world.

Here's an OLD rendering of what CIA might look like:

I would definitely be much better if Manila's airport was at Clark. At least it would be quieter to those living in Merville

NAIA Terminal 3 was completed for a long time now, why is it not opened yet? I thought the Philippines govt was saying that they would force the airport open sometimes last year. Any idea when it will be open? Such a waste to have a such a new and modern terminal building and yet can't use it.
