The architect for the airport, a Frenchman, unfortunately saw overall Indonesia only as a tourist destination.

Manila got the right design for its airport for a capital city.

Both cities wont make it to serve as hubs for international flights. Many American airlines have changed SouthEast Asia base from Manila to cities like Bangkok (for United Airlines for example). Both airports would act just a feeder for the more international airports such as Hong Kong (for Manila) and Singapore (for Jakarta) or even Bangkok (for both Manila and Jakarta, for some European airlines like Lufthansa).
I dont think that Businessman cancel their business trip to a place,
just because the airport is not modern enough, or because it is too tourism.

But thats just my 2 cents.

I have to disagree with indorealty,

Design is not a major factor to attract an airline for using the airport but connectivity, strategic location and passengers yield does it. What Bangkok benefits are not only as a transit airport or hub, but tourists also a major income for the BKK. If you bring down the number of foreign passengers traffic and its domestic not including transit, you will see why so many airlines are choosing BKK. About Jakarta's design... Mind you, Jakarta is still a major port for any tourists coming to Indonesia, Yogyakarta and Bali doesnt have so many foreign airlines coming compare to Jakarta.

cheers

Another thing I don't like about NAIA is the organization. Terminal 3 is far from Terminals 1 & 2 especially when there's a traffic. Soekarno Hatta on the other hand is very organized in both architecture and layout. Plus NAIA is very close to the main CBD which is Makati!

I prefer airports that are far from the city and are connected to highways.

I'm getting a bit impatient on NAIA 3. Hopefully it's operational when I fly again to Manila

Is that 744 of Cebu Pacific for real ? I have no idea if they have 744....they're planning to get two from EX-SIA..but so far they're only getting A320s and A319s for their new fleets.

cheers

cebu pacific is doing a good house keeping, so it's not impossible to have 744 in the future.

Guys, i think its not right to post pictures of something which doesnt exists yet. For example, asian spirit and 5J (CP) with its livery painted on A380 and 744 which they dont ordered yet. Thats can making a problem with the airline itself and maybe airbus/Boeing. I am not suggesting anything, just to avoid some problem in the near future because some of my friends experienced legal issues before.

Also carlos, posting pictures from Airlines.net which you hosted from your own server is illegal if you dont have the permission yet from the photographers. Go delete it before they sue you, hurry!

cheers

Or atleast indicated that it was just fabricated and is not meant to mislead people. I agree with David. There is nothing wrong to hope and dream about something just do it discreetly and smartly.

I wish PAL will purchase A380s...thay need that for US-bound flights.
Cebu Pacific will also need 747s if they plan to fly to the US, or perhaps the Middle East.
For Asian Spirit...err...let's wait some decades more...hehehe...

Well, I also have to disagree with Indoreality. For me, an International Airport, epecially the one in a capital city (since that is in most cases, the busiest one), should be a very welcoming place, and an introduction for foreigners of the culture of the country; that is why I am very against glassy modern airports.
I do agree, though, that the government should modernise the computers and stuff in SHIA, but they should not change the concrete at all.
Anyways, it does not mean I hate NAIA. In fact, I quite like Terminal 1.
