Ta Neil. God bless Manchester! Hair stood up then. I was drinking with my mate outside the Moston arms when those Red arrows flew over. 200ft high? Not a lot anyway. One of the best sights I ever did see.

I watched it on TV in Canada, it was given prime sporting coverage by CBC.
They showed the whole of the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the major events that involved Canadian athletes.

I personally know one of the main CBC commentators and he was very impressed with the city, the people and the organization of the events.

A Canadian commentator also pointed out that the rain in the closing show seemed to coincide with the arrival of the Queen and stopped when she left!

I have to admit that Manchester excelled and pulled off what a lot of cynics said would be a failure.

The critics couldn't have been more wrong.

Remember it well. My missus was one of the crew at the games, she was a team head and looked after the Ghana athletes... she had to take them shopping for clothes one day and took some of em to Afflecks Palace!

What with the training and everything I hardly saw her for about 12 weeks.

It was bliss.

For those weeks I landed a plum job working at the Tourist Information on Portland. (Now Dawsons). I was on the train home as the fireworks were going off. There was an amazing sense of pride as everyone dashed to the windows to look - the driver even peeped his horn.

We actually got paid to spend all day chatting to Nigerian Sports ministers, Ugandan Table Tennis players and Hockey fans from Canada. It was an incredible two weeks which no-one will forget. A Major boost for the cirt brilliantly organised and built upon
I was there when Paula Radcliffe won Gold!

PS - Interesting who various IOC members were shown round at the time. I wonder if London realises how much they owe us for 2012!

Ah, seems like yesterday Didn't have chance to see any of the events at the stadium, but the City Centre was buzzing during those 2 weeks, and it was real party festival atmosphere. Nice weather too, until the very last few days.

Even piccadilly gardens shone like a star then. Massive screen and live tv broadcasts helped. The rythym of manchester changed during that period and has grown stronger each year...ahhh.
Twat the joystick back up for the MIF 2007.
