Does anyone know what's being built in the lot immediately north of this building?

It appears caisson drilling has been going on for a few weeks.

It's a parking garage, unfortunately. Kinda surprising, since the caissons were easily 7 feet in diameter. Perhaps that's a normal size for parking garages? They certainly seemed huge to me.

As for this building, they've framed out the mechanical penthouse. Does that not make it topped out now?

Any chance they're overbuilding the parking garage with the possibility of using it as a podium for a tower in the future?

I really like this building.

I'm amazed at how Kinzie has changed since 2001 when they started building the Sterling. At least 6-7 highrises have gone up right along that little strech. It was always such a dumpy area too....

I guess it's ok to post this here regarding the parking garage across the street at Kinzie and Clark. Just spoke to Illini Precast, and ATMI Precast is making the wall panels and whatnot, and JW Peters and Sons is making the big double T's. The wall panels are made in Aurora, IL and the giant T's are made in Burlington, WI. I will update once I hear anything else, but I better get my ass out to Aurora to discuss plans on handling the transportation, and providing a marshalling yard.

^Thanks for the info. Sorry I am little ignorant in construction-speak, and I don't know what a "giant T" is. Could you explain to a newbie a little bit? Also, what else do you know about the precast panels? Are they a lot of them, are they the main covering of the structure? Thanks for any information you have, and let me know if I ever get annoying with any of my questions (I have an astounding curiosity about any and all things related to Chicago developments).

lol, no worries bro. the Giant tees are used for long spans. Also, it speed up the construction and provides maximum weight bearing capacity. We especially LOVE moving these cuz they are usually 12'-15' wide, 60-80' long, and 50,000-100,000#. trust me, its badass seeing this stuff goin down the road....especially when they're my trucks

As far as the wall panels, it is what it is.....a wall panel lol....the exterior structure. Now these you can get weight bearing and non-weight bearing. These can be erected year-round. They also offer them in many colors Yes, there should be a lot of these too. Usually they range anywhere from 40'-100'. Yes, we have moved these 100' walls before.

Ask away bro, I don't mind schoolin ya bwahahahaha j/k

Nice shots. The curtain wall looks exceptional in your first photo.

^Once the glass is all finished up and cleaned, I think the tower will look great. Also, the base looks like it should be quite interesting and genuinely contemporary, which I think will be refreshing for that area and a nice compliment to Marina City across the way.
