Just a question to the Mods.
You had warned me not to "SPAM" my YT channel on the Railways-India thread. Fine? I stopped posting back to back save for the occasional post and yesterday when I posted a video clip of a historic moment for the Railways in Mangalore, you got me banned! May I ask for a valid explanation or is it that you have a policy of intolerance to anyone who posts in the "Indian Railways'" thread? BTW, my banned username is Kevin Russel. I have no qualms about being banned but I do expect a valid answer from your side.
And what do you expect from this thread if you don't tolerate people posting content here and shoo them off by issuing an anti-spam warning?

Kevin, please provide project updates, photos etc like it's done in each and every thread in this sub-forum.
Only in this thread we have just videos being posted one after another.
I don't think people find a thread interesting or meaningful that contains only youtube videos.
The Mods can correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like this is what Svartmetall, the Mod, has posted above as well.

Agreed. That is precisely the reason why I stopped sharing videos here since the past few days. But since there was a historic event, i.e., the simultaneous flagging-off of three trains from my city, I posted a news clipping accompanied by a video clip which I had shot from onboard one of the inaugural trains. Now can this be called spamming? I just want an answer from the Mod who blocked my IP. Are you here to moderate or display Hippocratic behaviour? What was the need to ban my IP when I had adhered to the request made by the moderators i.e., to limit the number of shared videos.

Kevin, do share any photos you may have taken when the three trains flagged off along with any other details about the trains. That would be nice.
No more videos though please. This thread is flooded with them as Pals_RGB and many other members requested.
Thanks.

Jammu-Poonch Rail Project Under New Delhi’s Consideration: Congress

JAMMU: All India Congress Committee Secretary and in-charge Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Affairs Mainul Haque today said that project for Jammu-Poonch railway line is under the consideration of the Centre.
“The project for Jammu-Poonch railway line is under consideration of the Union Government and as per survey it is proposed to be of over 13,612 crores,” Mr Haque said while reviewing a series of meetings with the party cadre during his tour to Rajouri and Poonch districts of the state.
He said achievement of 73rd amendment in the state Panchayat Raj Act and creation of administrative units need to be explained to the people to counter false propaganda of other parties.
He also appreciated efforts of the state Pradesh Congress Committee for strengthening the party in all three regions of the state.
The Congress leader asked the partymen to gear up for the coming Lok Sabha elections and organise the units at grass root level to propagate the policies and programmes of the Congress party.
He also asked party workers to counter the propaganda of communal and divisive forces who are bent upon to harm the social and secular fabric of this nation for their vested interests.
“The Congress has a history of sacrifices to protect the secular ideals, unity and integrity of the nation,” he added.
He said UPA I and II has done commendable job on all fronts and the country witnessed large scale development in every sphere of life.
“The Right to Information (RTI) is the biggest tool in the hand of every common citizen to know about everything and expose the misdeeds and corruption,” he said, adding that it is the Congress which offered this opportunity to the countrymen to expose and fight corruption.

Sharing a few photos and videos from Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO world heritage site in Tamil Nadu state. The line uses unique rack and pinion system to aid the trains in climbing the steep 1 in 12.5 gradients.

The network carried about eight billion passengers (the highest in the world) and 1.01 million tonnes of freight (fourth highest in the world) in 2013.

Indian Railways is 161 years old. The Indian railway network is divided into 17 zones and operates more than 19,000 trains per day, including 12,000 passenger trains and 7,000 freight trains.
The national railway operator plans to add 4,000km of new lines by 2017, as well as significant gauge conversion, doubling and electrification of its existing aging lines.
It also plans to add 3,338km of exclusive freight network by 2017 with the implementation of Eastern & Western Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC), two of the six identified dedicated freight corridors in India.

Six high-speed corridors have also been identified for implementation in the country. The 534km Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed link is being advanced as a pilot project with an estimated investment of $9.65bn.

Thanks big-dog.
planemad deserves the credit for his work.

This 2011 map was based on data until end of fiscal 2010.

So from start of fiscal 2011 to end of fiscal 2012, we have:
new routes: 727 km
track renewal: 3300 km
track gauge upgrade: 856 km
line doubling: 752 km

indianrailways - reference

I don't have the complete list for 2013 because the end of fiscal 2013 is still not over.
However, counting the New Morinda - Khamano track, the new line from Sahnewal to Ludhiana, the Samrala - Madpura section, the Gurgaon - Mundra route, the Banihal - Qazigund line including the Pir Panjal rail tunnel, the line between Sevoke in Siliguri and Rangpo in east Sikkim, the line doubling between Changrabandha and Malbazar, the line from Golokganj in Dhubri district to New Cooch Behar, the new Ajmer line to Pushkar, the two new lines laid for new platforms 4 & 5 at Ranchi rail station, the Kottavalasa-Simhachalam fourth line, the doubling of Sambalpur-Rengali section, the doubling of Rajathgarh-Radhakishorpur, Khurda Road-Begunia and Lanjigarh-Bhawanipatna and the third railway line between Aligarh and Ghaziabad etc., I'd say over 300 km of new routes and over 450 km of line doubling.

Work has been underway but slower than the pace it should have been under the present Government.
The national elections are about to commence in India, and it's expected the new Government will prioritize larger infrastructure spending in railways and that's eagerly awaited.
