Ok. So here it is! The compilation of a round trip on the extremely popular Mandovi Express that runs through Konkan Railway from Madgaon in Goa to Mumbai. Included pretty much all the key views sans the food since there are already quite a few videos regarding that...

Western Dedicated Freight Corridor electrification contract awarded
25 Nov 2014

INDIA: Dedicated Freight Corridor Corp of India has awarded a consortium of Japanese firm Sojitz Corp and local partner Larsen & Toubro a ¥50bn contract to supply and install 2 x 25 kV 50 Hz electrification equipment on the 915 km Rewari – Vadodara section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.

The 1 483 km Western DFC linking Delhi and Mumbai is being developed using a Japanese Official Development Assistance loan which requires the uses of Japanese technologies. As a result, Japanese products account for around 40% of the order, including cables and equipment for the 16 substations on the section.

The contract announced on November 19 is the second for Sojitz and L&T, following a 2013 order covering civil engineering and track works on the 626 km Rewari – Iqbalgarh section of the Western DFC

Modi opens railway to Mendipathar
01 Dec 2014

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dispatched the first train from Mendipathar remotely at a ceremony in Guwahati on November 29

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dispatched the first train from Mendipathar remotely at a ceremony in Guwahati on November 29.

INDIA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was joined by Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhu and other dignitaries at a ceremony in the northeastern city of Guwahati on November 29, marking the opening of the railway to Mendipathar.

Dispatching the inaugural train remotely from Railway Stadium in Guwahati, Modi outlined the strategic importance of railway investment in the landlocked northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram. Proximity to the borders with Bangladesh, Myanmar and Bhutan offers potential for greater international trade, but the region that has long suffered from limited road and rail access, he said.

The 131 km railway from Guwahati to Mendipathar via Dudhnoi is the first to open in Meghalaya since it was granted statehood in 1972. The route had been planned since the early 1990s, but progress had been repeatedly blocked by local opposition. IR expects to operate an initial service of one train per day in each direction.

One of the few trains that skip Dadar Central twice in a round trip!

Dadar is the most important station in Mumbai and serves both the Central line as well as the Western Line. Dadar Central has almost all the long distance trains stopping there whereas Dadar Western has just a few albeit with almost a similar number of suburban services.

Hi there. Sorry for the late reply but the official site doesn't show the sub-urban services on the Mumbai sub-urban routes. Just download the M-indicator app on your phone and it'll give you all the details of the suburban trains. FYI, there's a train every 4 minutes or so from Churchgate to Bandra.
Cost of the ticket will vary from about 15 Rupees for second class(which will be packed) to about 150 Rupees for the first class.

The incident: It was an event-less journey for the 70106 Mangalore-Madgaon DEMU and its Six hundred odd passengers until the train was looped at Bhatkal station. The 56641 Madgaon-Mangalore Passenger which was waiting at the station departed as soon as the DEMU arrived and a dog which was loitering on the platform jumped onto the tracks probably in search of food. After a while, it was apparent that the 12432 Nizamuddin-Trivandrum Rajdhani Express would be crossing us at Bhatkal as well and all were expecting a high-speed fly-by. But the Mangalore Passenger hadn't yet cleared the block section and thus the Rajdhani was taken into the loopline platform which had just then been vacated by the Passenger train. As the pilots exchanged greetings, this dog started running towards the fast approaching Rajdhani Express and just as everyone watching this whole scene unfold in front of their eyes expected the worst to happen, it ducked under the train and as soon as the obstructive Locomotive passed over, started walking along the platform and came out at the other end of the train. People were delighted and flabbergasted alike after having witnessed something very very shocking happen right in front of their eyes. Animal runovers are common on the Konkan Railway and this was definitely something that nobody had anticipated.

Going past the Alamatti Dam and reservoir at Almatti, North Karnataka. This was one spellbinding scene that must be witnessed live in order to really enjoy it's beauty!
