Canton Crossing's plans seem to be all over the map at the moment. The Harbour's Edge building was supposed to be the second building to go up, right after the 1st Mariner tower was completed. I think about the time that all the other major condo projects around the city began to be announced was when Canton Crossing decided to bump up their condo portion and go with that next. Then the market took a downturn.

I've spoken to several people at Hale Properties about where Canton Crossing is headed. They've all told me that the condo towers are next to go up, with the first one starting sometime between now and fall 2008 (one of the forumers actually said that employees working at Canton Crossing have been told to park elsewhere, presumably so that they can fence off the parking lot for site prep, but as far as I know that hasn't happened yet.) No one that I've spoken to at Hale Properties has ever mentioned Harbour's Edge. I have to wonder if it is a dead project. It is probably for the better though. It was only 12 stories and the design was uninspired. It was probably thought up during a time when Canton Crossing was going to be much smaller in scale. In the last year there has been talk of the project's size being tripled, and I've also heard that they dropped the architects of the original condo towers (also for the better, in my opinion). My guess is that Hale is waiting to see what becomes of his arena bid. If the arena goes to Canton, it'll shake up any plans he had.

According to the BBJ, SBER has started construction of the Thames Street Wharf building. Harbor Point is finally underway!

If the Icon at Canton was never approved, I doubt that Canton Crossing will.

The Icon was in the middle of a residential neighborhood and would've stuck out like a ore thumb. Canton Crossing is a reuse of an industrial site. It's happening. Hale has invested too much.

DOes anyone know the status of the State Center?

THere has been talk about redeveloping the whole state center for years now. I heard there were serious discussions about ther center around a year ago but everytime I ask someone who works down there when they are moving, they say they never know.

Check out www.statecenter.org You can find pretty much everything you need to know there. Currently, they're in the middle of a LONG planning process. It will probably take a while to get going, especially if they decide to replace the McCulloch Homes.

10 Inner Harbor looks so out of place for it's location.

Yeah....this design sucks. It's almost a joke of a building.
