I cant wait for the new monorail to open...it will make the beach directly accessible from HarbourFront MRT station

I think Sentosa has quite a lot of potential...especially with the new projects planned.

One of my favourites of going to Sentosa has to be the Cable Car Ride

Besides that, Sentosa Cove residential units and the new hotels are on the way...I guess the population on the island looks set to increase...

It is!

The first time was rather terrifying though, but subsequently it gets less so and then you're able to move around to take some pics with the camera....

It is $5 for a round trip ticket and $8 if you want to take that race circuit down the hill

Sentosa's Images spot wins global award

SENTOSA'S renovated Images of Singapore has beaten 183 competitors from around the world to win an international award for themed entertainment, alongside attractions like Disneyland and events like the Athens Olympics.

Images of Singapore won the Thea award for Reinvention of a Cultural Heritage Centre, one of 13 awards handed out by the Themed Entertainment Association - which describes itself as an organisation 'representing creators of compelling places and experiences'.

Images was the first South-east Asian attraction to take home a prize in the Thea's 15-year history.

In a statement, the association said: 'Tasked with refreshing and reinventing a classic, but somewhat stodgy, cultural centre, the designers of this project combined state-of-the-art technology with effective story-telling to create a sparkling new visitor experience, which presents the history of Singapore and its unique blend of cultures, ethnicities and traditions.'

The award is seen as a ringing endorsement of Sentosa's ambitious development plan, which is two years ahead of schedule.

Indeed, Sentosa's outlook today is a far cry from five years ago, when its failing attractions saw it variously branded a 'ghost town' and 'an embarrassment'.

Sentosa's property director Gurjit Singh said yesterday the current breakneck rejuvenation of the island will be sustained, with new attractions making their debut 'every three to six months'.

Over the last four years, Sentosa has sprouted a series of new features, ranging from the Sentosa Luge ride to the luxury Spa Botanica.

Upcoming draws include a new range of amenities at Palawan Beach costing $11 million, and $260 million worth of investment in three separate hotel and resort developments.

The last piece of the masterplan will be unveiled in 2010, when the proposed integrated resort is scheduled to open.

The new atmosphere of optimism at Sentosa has largely been the product of an investment strategy put in place three years ago that drew up a wishlist of tenants.

Sentosa's earlier policy of parcelling out land to private investors willing to open attractions, regardless of their experience, had proved a dismal failure.

High on that wishlist was Il Lido's managing director Beppe De Vito, who Sentosa management spent one year courting before he agreed to sink $1 million into opening his Italian restaurant at the Sentosa Golf Club. Sentosa offered to couple his investment with $2 million of its own money.

His two-month-old restaurant has so far been a resounding success, pulling in three times the business he had projected for its first 20 days of business.

The number of visitors to Sentosa has risen from 3.4 million since 2001 to 5.2 million last year. Singaporeans made up 55 per cent of the visitors.

Mr Singh, who has been through some low points in his 11 years with the group, called the satisfaction of its current achievements 'immense'.

'At the present moment, we can't foresee anything that will stop our development plans. In the last four years, we have seen Sars, bird flu, the tsunami, but we have still pushed ahead.

'The mission that we had set out earlier to produce high quality experiences has come to fruition.'
