Those are some Shades of Gray!

Brazil is not all tropical(*). Curitiba is the coldest of the biggest cities and a lot colder from the 3rd place that would be São Paulo, Porto Alegre being 2nd.

Retractable Roof is not essencial, but it's cool!

But the greatest concern is rain, really common even in the winter.

The temperature is not comparable with your european standards of "cold" but Curitiba has a relatively wet winter.

Although in the last 20 years freezing temperatures are becoming rare, the damn drizzle with 3-8ºC is far from confortable,

Some small cities in higher regions that have snow every year (like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A3o_Joaquim)

Exactly. I think it's just to the corrupt politicians get some "extra money". But what I think that is the most unacceptable, is the construction of stadiums located in places without big teams to use them.
I think that the stadiums of Manaus, Brasília and Cuiabá, will be not used after the Copa, or will receive less people than the capacity of them. Actually, I think that will occur with all stadiums, but the others will receive games of big teams.

About this stadium, I think that it will be very nice and beautiful.

I'm not concerned about Cuiabá because they will reduce its capacity after the WC, but Brasília and Manaus stadiums are out of size for what the soccer teams from these cities can offer.

Since when did football-players become such p*ssies?

I mean c'mon, rain is a part of football. A retractable roof always compromises the atmosphere in a stadium cause it make it feel like an indoor arena and that's not where football is meant to be played. Rain, wind (and snow) are just conditions you have to adapt to. Soaking-wet players, 5 meter sliding tackles, a ball that bounces just a little different. But maybe i'm a romantic.

In my country we have the Amsterdam ArenA and the Gelredome, both stadiums without a real "football-atmosphere" and the teams who play there (Ajax Amsterdam and Vitesse Arnhem) deserve much better than that . Never ever build roofs on a stadium unless you live in Siberia or Antarctica.

Can't they build the indoor arena already? I mean the "4 walls and roof" so it can be used as media center and directly after the wc matches start the rest of the works? Just an idea.
About the stadium :
- is the color of the seats really going to be grey-black or some more lifely colours?
- what type of seats are it going to be?

Great project by the way and like concept of stadium and indoor arena (or one big indoor arena and one small indoor arena )

Because that space, aside media center, will be serve also as parking (broadcasting vans), and there some money issues about.

Seems like the seats are going to have some tons of grey, but at same time, there's no official confirmation. The seats will be from this model:

It's for the crowd, not the players.

And mainly for non football events.

The rain is very windy and the roof should be really big to protect the first rows. I don't think it would be so much different from a full roof.

And it does not mean that it will be closed always. It may have tactical uses, depending on the adversary.

Whether it's for the crowd or the players, my opinion stays the same. A bit of rain never hurt anybody and it is again part of football.

The reality here is that they close the roof even when there is only a chance of rain.

I'm just not a fan of these things

again, the question is NON football events. an UFC event cannot happen under rain, for example.
