I have no idea how reliable is that info really... In any case it doesn't sound like very good PR ;-)

I guess they'll finish the current floors by December 2010, I think once they install the crown they can't increase the height later At least it would look pretty good symmetrical

So they are finishing the tower off to be symmetrical with it's sister? What about the observation tower in the middle?

In English: http://www.property-magazine.eu/mira...ors-12654.html

Seems as if the taller tower will be cut to 64 floors.

This is unless Mirax can obtain credit at a 12% interest rate before Spring, in which case it'll be built at full height.

Looks like the are blackmailing government of Moscow and Alfa-Bank to organise credit for them.

If it is cut down to 64 floors, the spire/mast could still be over 300m/1,000 feet. So it probably will still be a supertall.

In all honesty, Mirax needs to have this project taken away from them. Their CEO is a douche, trying to hold on to the project even though cutting the floors down will make the towers look horrible. I'm generally against hostile takeovers, but in this case, exceptions should be made. Mirax has got to go.

Looks like Europe's first supertall will either go to the LB Tower or Mercury City. And I'm guessing LBT will be finished (or at least topped out first) since its using a naked steel frame (as opposed to a concrete steel mesh) and its 70m shorter than Mercury.

I just hope they trim the spire accordingly, as you said. It's a bit of a cheat as it is, and only lowering the floors would make it really lame.

Exactly what I was thinking. Polonsky is a douche, he ruined the tower and the future skyline.

You really think it's true? That's like that if Luzhkov decided to demolish Kremlin. That means, it's impossible to cut down tower by Mirax, because it's under arrest.

My understanding from the articles posted earlier is that it's not on hold... Structure is on hold but it seems Mirax wants to have 64 functional office floors that they can rent out... Right? Or did I miss something?

That's what I call a disappointment.
With 64 floors, East Tower will only be slightly taller then the existing one... most likely, the roof part will be added immediatelly and make it around 250m. I can't imagine that the last floors will be built as planned plus a flat roof on top, this would look ridiculous.

Anyway the complex will look too bulky now IMO, and the spire can't help it, though it might reach 300m.

Too bad Mirax is not able or willing to sit out the crises, and then keep going as planned, like it's done eventually in Dubai for instance.

That's marketing. What's "better" now, compared to the original design? "Lower-but-at-least-built" would be more honest.

Isn't City of Capitals about to receive that title? CTBUH has it at 302m.
