To be honest folks, when it comes to skyscrapers, most people around the world will think of ESB, the WTC, CN Tower, Eiffel Tower, Big Ben and that's it. China's skyscrapers are not famous at all.

I can see Abraj Albait, Burj Khalifa and The Shard becoming very well known names in the future, though.

Depend on a part of planet you live in. No one heard of CN Tower, Big Ben and The Shard here. Ostankino, Spasskaya - this is comes to mind when you hear the tower word. WTC and Eiffel are well known, ESB is hardly known.

British and NYC fans. Or just fans of foreign culture. Majority have no clue about both of them. Same like those from west who has knowledges only in local culture. They seems have no clue on Moscow kremlin towers, Shukhov Tower and some other worldwide well known towers.

No. I can only speak for the people I know, but most of them know what the Kremlin is and looks like. From what you're saying it just sounds like Russia is very insular.

Well, not many people know Moscow has any skyscraper

Well, hopefully both cities and Europe will start to build more modern buildings.
London is famous for its controversial Gherkin. Moscow has been renowned for its highrises since the 1950s since the construction of 7 Stalinist skyscrapers( the tallest at their time not just in Europe, but in the whole world outside the US with the beautiful 240-meter Moscow State University building).

May have been renowned in Russia, but nowhere else in the world has heard of this Stalinist highrise...

Look back a few pages (?), it's already shown. But as you can see, there's been a breathtaking progress on the East Tower. But our bets if it's going to top out like West isn't known, so only pictures can prove. Keep looking...

I find it very difficult to believe that people from Moscow
have not heard of the CN tower.
The Ostankino Tower(?), in Moscow, was the tallest tower
in the world until the CN tower was built.

It is very sad that this building will be stunted.
It did look funny with the 500m+ spire.

Ordinary people in Russia even don't know the Canadian capital.

^Right, and the point, Newcastle Real Man, is that people are insular as much as American or British.

Everyone recognize their local landmarks as wordwide popular landmarks simply because they are national, they are widely known, but locally. It's everywhere. And not only in Russia. Moreover it's more widespread in English countries because English speakers reject to recognize non English sources. Spaniards have no problems of reading Russian sites about Russia in Russian language using online translators. Russians have no problems of reading Japanese sites in Japanese about Japan. But not those from English part of the world. They prefer to stay with local sources only and very often misapplying "world" and "worldwide" to local.

If you want compatibility with standards and security, why do you recomend firefox and not Opera?

The only truly secure system is one that is powered off, cast in a block of concrete and sealed in a lead-lined room with armed guards - and even then I have my doubts. Gene Spafford.
I am Basque, not Russian, the "Siberia" thing is a joke.

I knew what the Big Ben is when I was 9 years old. I learned it at English lessons. And I think everybody in Russia know BigBen. Big Ben is really well known.
