Were u sleeping docc?
![]() Dubai government pays alot, hunderds of millions annually. Where do u think they get water for greenery? The thing is that because we dont have rain that much the municipality doesnt know if the system would work perfectly. http://vgn.dm.gov.ae/DMEGOV/dm-mp-drainage-sewerage Last edited by smussuw; March 18th, 2006 at 02:19 PM. |

Yes, i was, i'm so glad you got me out of my "deep" slumber
Smussuw, do you have a problem where you read something and then interpret it to be something else? I asked why they don't plan for the future and why measures aren't taken to tackle climatic problems.Oh and where is it that they get water for greenery from? Were you sleeping when the roads got flooded? Oh wait, thats not the Dubai Govt's fault that the roads got flooded, because they didn't "expect" it. There is something called as city planning which i think Dubai needs to perfect on. Another example of their ignorance is roads and transport (OT,i know). In most countries, they first plan a road-network and then they allocate and develop projects. In Dubai, they first construct everything and then start wondering how to handle road networks. Also, If the Govt spends hundreds of millions annually, then why is it that we still have these flood problems? Even when i was in school (in Dubai), heavy rains would flood our whole school and it was an absolute disaster! The main thing is that they don't plan well, they are just reckless. As i mentioned earlier, even if they don't have rains, they should take measures to be able to tackle the problem if necessary. An analogy to this would making buildings Earthquake proof. Get it? |

i have an apartment in infinty this should be ok i guess, wot about villas on the palm, thats a hell of a lot of money , around 4 million AED , even people who paid 2 or 3 million, they want quality.
Also i hear the towers are earthquake proof but there has never really been an earthquake on UAE and the chance of that is less than rain, but because its taken seriously things are done, i think the same should happen with the rain issue. Its like the reason why some "clown" decided that sheikh zayed road would never need to be crossed by a predestrian , esp considering all the tourist trade, come on guys lets face it , sometimes these problems in dubai are "glitzed" over with razamataz and slick marketing , we have to understand people will need to live here and build lives and you cant do that if your house is runied once a year by water. Rant over and out |

question
All these rains?
Is it normal or is it due to the policy of planting trees and setting up irrigation? Water rains is useless if it is washed out and gets drained by the desert. It should be contained in city reservoirs. Why doesn't Dubai government develop forestation and establish a policy of planting trees instead of malls and hotels? Trees would bring in a cool temperature, bring rain, fertilize lands, bring up an eco-system, develop local agriculture and relieve people from the stress of the city. |

Omega:
Dont state things you dont know nothing about. First of all, the government does plant a lot of trees and greenery. But how should that bring rain? There is already an eco system, what do you mean with bringing up an ecosystem, its not on mars :S. Whats important is to protect the existing eco-system. Second of all, stress in UAE? Stress is not an issue in this culture as it is in west. From what i know and have read (no wonder all these project delays occur). About the reservoirs, and rain getting washed out. Over time rain creates Wadi's. I dont know how you should gather the rain to the reservoirs but might work.

so are there no storm sewers on roads at all? or is the system just undersized to carry the peak load?

Undersized to carry the peak load. The fact that Dubai is plain flat doesn't help either.

Is that amount or rain normal every year or something new due to the policy of planting trees?
This is a question to residents of Dubai. |
