That's one of the best "never built" towers in London in my opinion.

That tower posted above a few posts ago looks a bit like the freshwater place tower in Melbourne. Couldn't find any other pics...

If anyone else has better pics post em. They look almost identical except fenchurch towers shorter part is curved not boxed.

That was orginally planned back in the mid nineties but never built.

This hideous development has been granted planning permission.

Quote:
LAND SECURITIES SECURES RESOLUTION FOR NEW CITY OF LONDON TOWER

Land Securities announces that the City of London Planning Committee has resolved to grant planning permission for its proposed development at 20 Fenchurch Street, EC3. Designed by international architect Rafael Viñoly, 20 Fenchurch Street will be a 160m (525 ft) 37-storey tower complex, totalling approximately 600,000 sq ft of office and retail space.
Viñoly's innovative design also features a public 'Sky Garden' at the top of the building. This will be the highest 'accessible park' in London and will offer visitors an outside roof terrace, gardens, restaurant and café and a panoramic view of London. In addition, the development of 20 Fenchurch Street will significantly enhance the public realm around the base of the building, creating new views of the adjacent Wren Church and St. Margaret Pattens.

Once full planning permission is obtained, the intention is to go to the market to seek a pre-let of part of the building prior to construction starting on site. Mike Hussey, Managing Director of Land Securities' London Portfolio, commented: "This building responds to the City's need for increased density and the market's demand for efficient large floor plates. We are also extremely pleased that the building combines outstanding design with progressive features that will ensure it meets rigorous sustainability criteria."20 Fenchurch will set new benchmarks for office design and we are delighted with the City of London's decision."

That rendering shows exactly why this tower should never be built... It is far too close to The Thames, far too tall for its location, and completely draws all attention away from gems like 122 Leadenhall and SwissRe behind it.

UGH!!!!

Looks likely to be built though. Its the kind of tower you'd like to be IN so you don't have to see IT.

Build this shit in China (where they build a massive lamp shaped building) or India or Dubai (where they build a stretched big Ben) not in our LDN!!

Nice tower but it should be built in the docklands area.

This makes me vomit in the sink. Look at this godzilla monster looming over those beautiful old buildings. The original design sort of appeared like embarcadero in san francisco. That is a much better design, or even the Warsaw design that is curved and the top slanted like citicorp center. The walkie talkie just appears hideous in that location!!!

As for Freshwater place and Fenchurch Tower, I see the resemblance!

Demolition of existing tower at 20 Fenchurch Street is about to start (it has been vacant for a while).
Picture taken yesterday by SirDenys and posted on London thread:
Development is planned for delivery in 2011.

Some random comments:

An utterly amazing city....got to get back there soon..

Ill never forget a New Yorker coming up to me outside a theatre and saying, you should see a show here, god I love this city..

And an American lady (those Yanks get everywhere)..gasping when she walked into the great court , 'what a truly harmonious space she said'..

And that blonde guy on piccadilly circus spouting his religious zealotry, 'if u want to be a winner, dont be a sinner'....
