Yes, I was about to do that. Does anyone have up-to-date specs? Height in meters, floor count, development phase?

It needs to say:

LONDON | 20 Fenchurch Street | 160m | 36 fl | PRO

Technically, the building has been approved. However, it's going through a public inquiry right now, so it might be cancelled. Therefore it's best to classify the project as "proposed".

20FC should serve as a reminder of given the right project EH will rise up again regaining its confidence. Developers are getting sloppy and architects lazy. We have far too many glass and steel buildings, and too many poor quality low rises. Even some high-rises are really bad.

Which floors are the mechanical floors?

It looks good in that first pic... I think it's grown on me, though don't think it's suited for the City. Would look better on the riverfront in Canary Wharf!

Looks quite clumbsily dumped into the city, but I think once it's built everyone will love it.

I dont know why so many people have reservations about this. Its fantastically designed and unique. Infact its one of my favourite towers proposed in London.

Viñoly’s ‘Walkie Talkie’ tower given the all-clear

Rafael Viñoly’s hugely controversial ‘Walkie Talkie’ tower in the City of London has finally won the go-ahead.

Land Securities, the developer behind the 39-storey tower, received planning permission this morning for the site at 20 Fenchurch Street.

The news will come as a relief to Mike Hussey, the man leading the troubled development for Land Securities London Portfolio. In April Hussey told the AJ that up until then the scheme had cost the firm £19 million ‘without a start date in sight’ ( Developer still backing Viñoly’s Walkie Talkie tower – despite cost ).

The 155m-tall building was called in by then secretary of state Ruth Kelly despite receiving the thumbs-up from the City Corporation, CABE and the Greater London Authority.

Now, Vinoly can firm up his designs for the building, which will include 58,000m2 of office accommodation, retail space and a public ‘Sky Garden’. The green space will be the highest in London and will boast a botanical garden, roof terrace and restaurant.

Speaking of the Communities and Local Government’s decision to allow the tower, Hussey said: ‘The design by Rafael Vinoly, one of the world’s most innovative and acclaimed architects, is exceptional. We anticipate strong interest from occupiers and will be preparing the site for development now that we have consent.’

Boo! Still hate it... Its not grown on me in the slightest. Thank goodness for the height reduction... It could have been much worse!

At least we'll be spared this monster for at least a couple of years: a 100m building has to come down first. That'll be the the 3rd 100m building demolished in The City... Must be getting on for a world record?!

If they just got rid of the curved overhang facing the river, it'd be fine.
