Question about JR Railways.

Hey,

I'm going to Japan next week and I need to take a train from Tokyo to Osaka.
I want to take a Tokaido-Sanyo SHINKANSEN train.I went to the JR Railways website(http://www.japanrail.com/) to make a reservation, but the reservation service is indefinitely closed down. Does anyone know what website you go to to get online reservations????

I found a customer service number for JR Railways but I don't know how to dial it. The number was 050-2016-1603. Is there some kind of Area code I need to dial first or something???

It's not peak season now, so you "should" be able to buy the ticket the day of your trip. When calling Japan, omit the first 0 of the area code- so you should dial something like

+81-50-2016-1603

Are you coming with a rail pass? If you don't know what that is, it's probably too late for you to buy one, but in the future if you're coming to Japan and traveling by Shikansen from Tokyo to Osaka, it might be worthwile to buy a week-long JR rail pass. It allows unlimited travel on all JR trains, and costs about the same as a roundtrip shinkansen ticket from Tokyo to Osaka. It takes a week or longer to obtain though.
