Screw this guy!

[QUOTE=ABQist;14935189]South Florida Business Journal
"New Mexico has an excellent chance of attracting Piper because the New Mexico taxpayer is a very, very generous creature," Aboulafia said. "They're making aggressive offers by following the Third World tactic of direct investments in companies. No other state in the U.S. does that and it's a very effective way to lure industry and jobs away from other states. I think it rests somewhere between piracy and socialism."
QUOTE]

Ahhh this guy is really breaking my heart with his rhetoric about socialism etc... I say he can go toss off. NM is competing for the industry and Florida and its hurricanes that seem to destroy the place every other year can go take a hike!!

I was only quoting the article becuase it sounds like we've offered a good incentive package and our chances look good. This nonsense about socialism and piracy though, I have no idea what in the world he's talking about. It sounds like he is for it but against our methods. I don't know the details of the incentive package, but I'll take piper any way we can get em! Have we considered force?

ABQ Studios to host TV series, film featuring Samuel L. Jackson
New Mexico Business Weekly - 2:56 PM MDT Wednesday, August 22, 2007by Megan KamerickNMBW Staff
Two more productions will begin shooting this fall at Albuquerque Studios, including a feature film starring Samuel L. Jackson.

Frank Miller (the writer behind "Sin City" and "300") will direct "Will Eisner's The Spirit," based on Eisner's series "The Spirit." Eisner is considered by many to be the father of the graphic novel.

"The Spirit" is a comic series with a film noir feel. The adaptation will star Jackson, Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johansson an Gabriel Macht in a fantasy thriller about a rookie cop (played by Macht) who returns from the dead to fight crime as The Spirit, according to "The Hollywood Reporter."

The film will start production in October and will be shot entirely at Albuquerque Studios. Deborah Del Prete and Gigi Pritzker of Odd Lot Entertainment will produce along with Michael Uslan of Batfilm Productions.

Odd Lot and Lionsgate are production partners for the film, with Lionsgate holding domestic and United Kingdom rights, according to the Reporter.

And Albuquerque will host a second television series that is actually set in Albuquerque. "Breaking Bad" will begin production at the Albuquerque Studios this fall. The series is for AMC and focuses on a high school chemistry teacher who manufactures crystal meth, according to "Variety." It was created by Vincent Gilligan, best known for his work as executive producer of "The X Files." Mark Johnson (Oscar winner for "Rain Man") is executive producer and Karen Moore is producer.

"Breaking Bad" is a Sony Pictures Entertainment Television production. It will star Bryan Cranston, nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe awards for his role as a harried father in "Malcolm in the Middle." It will also star Anna Gunn, Aaron Paul, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt and RJ Mitte.

Mayor Martin Chavez said in a prepared statement that the series is another indicator of how successful Albuquerque Studios has become.

"I am particularly thrilled with 'Breaking Bad' because it is premised in Albuquerque and that type of recognition is priceless," Chavez said.
I hauled most of the electrical equipment and lighting for the "Breaking Bad" set back to Burbank. This was when they finished shooting the pilot. As far as Piper goes, it will be a great add along with Tesla motors. I did remember reading somewhere in another post that Piper was posibly looking to sell. But if everything falls into place, Albuquerque for the first time has a real chance at having a real industrial park!

Mayor Martin Chavez

Has anybody seen the mayor's water conservation video? Actually, very impressive. I also was shocked to learn that the mayor is a North Valley resident. A pro-growth, pro-abq NV resident!??? I think he deserves some credit. He is in his 3rd term and I'd likely vote for him again. Anybody know if he can go 4 terms?

I think Mayor Chavez would support all of the projects we push for here if he only had a city council worth a dime. His commitment to landscape ABQ is slow, but I do see progress and perhaps with a pro-abq council, the process could be expedited. In the above video, he is clearly a visionary -- and again, perhaps he would support a future loop and light rail if the opposers were gone. We know he was pro-street car and pro-arena, pro-big-i landscpae, pro-rail-runner, and he's definitely pro-business. He fought for the Paseo extension and i think we need to let him know he's done a pretty good job and we'd like him to run again, if possible.

Do I hear any I's?

I believe ABQ's beloved mayor has his eyes on the governor's office, which would be good too. I say support him all the way (though I hope he can go for one more term as mayor, ABQ is in such a great transitioning, I'd hate to see it fumble to an antigrowth or weak mayor). ABQ and NM need leaders with eyes on the future of this one of a kind city and state.

Actually Marty moved to the NV last year, and he will be the next Gov. of the Great State of New Mexico. Which is a good thing. He and the Gov. has such a great relationship, proof was all the money the city got in different areas

I don't see Marty being the next gov of New Mexico. His social politics and the problems with APD are hurting his chances. I personnally like his pro-growth stance. I just don't like the rest of his agenda. So I won't ever vote for him or Gov Bill for that matter.

Who do you see?!

Sorry, swerve, it will be a landslide victory, if the Guv leaves.

I disagree as far as a landslide victory, or Marty running at all, their is a growing disenchantment with Marty over a whole lists of issues. I have a family of politicians. From what they are telling me, the Republican party is actively recruiting someboddy right now. They are going to be dumping a ton of money in this next election. It would be tough for Marty to win Eastern NM. Southern NM tends to swing the GOP's way. I give Marty 50-50 in that area. Northern NM I could see him winning. Farmington would be another 50-50. I see Albuquerque as a real battleground. One where he is loseing support right now. Marty needs to decide if he is willing to have all his dirty laundry out on the front page if he decides to run. I guarntee you that he has plenty. If he does run, it will be one very interesting race.

He then got ambitious and studied the software more...

And came up with this rendition of his favorite worldwide skyscrapers... some he modified for appearances sake... (this was a year after the first one above)...

And here is his last... a 20's and 30's version...

He is not done with this one yet but so far I really like it. I am thinking about getting these printed up in a high resolution poster to put up in my office... BTW... my son just turned 11 in June...

I agree, it should be at least 19,000. There's a good possibility that Albuquerque will attract an NBA or NHL team in the not too far future.
If the city builds it too small then in the future it will cost twice or tree times as much to expand it or build a new one.
