Millennium Square

Work on the new Millennium Square is close to completion now with most of the paving, seating, lighting and the steel spheres water features are all in place.

Not exactly sure when the official opening for the Square will be, it was supposed to open for Love2B in Sheffield, but wasn't ready in time.

The square looks great from the restaurant bar and Winter Gardens.

Heres a few pics I took on Friday:

Original renders of the square

Its looking good, the whole area will look great once all that building work is done, I can see it looking great in the summer, also being linked with the peace gardens it will work well.

it'll be great when finished, of course it will be heavily disrupted while the tower, car park and offices are being built. but it'll be worth it in the end.

Its quite surprising just how visible and imposing that first office block is, just think how the tower and other blocks will impact on the square, and the views into the city centre

I'm tempted to say it's a load of old balls, but that would be too obvious.
It looks great, and is surrounded by a mix of building uses. It might be put in the shade in a few years!

once the other buildings and the tower are built, the reflection in those balls will be awesome!

Tis funny you posted those pics Skyman.

We were sat having a drink in the St Pauls bar this afternoon and was going to take some photo's and post them here (if i'd had more time)

There still looks a hell of a lot to do on the bottom floor of the office block.

Let's hope it's ready for use by summertime.

If you look at the renders and compare them with the reality theres no way the footprints of the square and the buildings are the same.I'll be very interested to see what the final layout looks like.

The Steel Spheres seem to be working now, could see the film of water running over them yesterday, they looked really striking.

If you take a good lookat this pic it looks like the town hall's Vulcan statue is mounted on top of St Pauls hotel lol!

Love the new lighting in Millennium Sq, even the pavement in the Square has lights scattered all over it, it even looks cool in daylight!

Some pic I took tonight of the newly opened Millennium Square, the pics don't do the square justice, it feels totally magical walking through the square at night and on into the Peace Gardens.

and a few of the Peace Gardens

Sheffield really do now how to use lighting and water, everything they seem to do look great, going around the city at night with all these new water and light features will be great.

That looks fucking class, i didn't realise there would be lights coming from the pavement- it really does look magical. And what a setting with the town hall and winter gardens. I think the heart of the city is finally starting to grab me, i just want the rest to be finished now!
