The original proposal was actually designed to compliment the Metropolis, and IMO is very plain and actually a lot more bulky than the second design.

I mean c'mon people its a simple case of concrete vs glass, its a no brainer. Although I hope they don't use green glass.

What about the design of the orginal metropolis? Take a look at that! Some of the towers that were never build. Its not too late to resrect the Chancery is it? I mean its in a more fashionable location.

The street frontage is quite wide but it is quite narrow in terms of its depth, i.e. it doesn't go all that far back. But I agree a tall think one like the Stanley would look better and would maintain viewshafts down from Symonds street.

It does appear to repeat a lot of what the Scene Apartments have done which is to create a big wall rather. Two taller and narrower buildings would be better on this site to be honest.

I don't think you can compare this and the obScenes.. they block some spectacular views of the waterfront which is not the case here.

While I personally don't like either design I think it is good that a large building is being proposed right on Queen Street in an area that does not have many tall buildings.

I am not going to comment until I have seen better renders .... if the glass is more translucent than reflective it will appear lighter and not as bold BUT considering that these are apartments I hope that they use reflective glass - we all know how filthy some people live and I don't want to have to look up and see their filth. Scene 1 as viewed from Beach Road is a fine example of this.

By the way, it was the City Council that wanted glass instead of something classical.

Could there be an historic gem behind that billboard?

Wishful thinking but I think they put that billboard there to improve the facade...

No, but there's an awesome tower within the area encased by the box with "Theatre Centre" on it.

Is there any advance on this project?? The photo posted by Mr Kiwi Fruit seems to be fairly new yet seems to show a building devoid of development
