Route of the future line: project development will be started later this year

Thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected.

I read news reports here in the US that the incident occurred in the vicinity of Park Pobedy, which is among the deepest Metro stations.

The train was new. Most likely it is the human factor.

This version comes from the very early reports that turned out to be absolutely irrelevant.

The current version is that the recently installed (and thus, uncontrolled) switch was not properly locked. It allowed the point to move out of position, which caused derailment of the train.

The switch in question was supposed to connect line 3 with the Western expansion of line 8 that's currenly u/c.

The first section of the first car of the train passed the switch straight, the second one started moving to the right to right tunnel, at this moment the next cars forced it to turn on 90 deg., across the large tunnel and then crashed it on the wall between two tunnels.

This was a defect switch as I thought, this accident has all features of this kind of trouble.

Well, I don't see how a power outage and an emergency breaking could cause a big derailment.
It is not like the train was running at a very high speed.

It wasn't a defunct switch - it was unfinished one (1 day before crash):



Somehow, construction workers failed to fixate unfinished switch in recommended way, and used 3 mm wire instead
