Because classic ex-USSR maintenance cycle require everything to be done during night closures, using daytime closures only as the very last resort.

For my point of view, Moscow has recently began doing section closures on weekends like in Europe, exclunding night maintenance works. Plus they started to use PAS (public adress system) to inform paasengers about changes. Of cource they were such PASs when one station is going to close to replace escalators, for example. Nowadays, of course, Metro standartise information in more European-like manner

This was done three times for the three oldest lines. More of this in the near future will not be. So to compare it with Europe incorrectly.

Jeez, could they make it any more pedestrian unfriendly? Too many of the outer Moscow subway exits let you off by the side of a freeway.

You're right, strange planing: walkways near the street are very narrow and too close to the street. All surface 1.5-2 m wide along such streets is covered by splashes of water, deicing reagents and dirt in winter and during bad weather.
