Moscow will be demolishing its monorail.
Second city this year to announce that monorail will be destroyed.
Sydney leads, Moscow follows.

The only truly secure system is one that is powered off, cast in a block of concrete and sealed in a lead-lined room with armed guards - and even then I have my doubts. Gene Spafford.

Since they're referred to as "temporary turnstiles," my vote would be yes.

Currently it is only a proposal, no official decision was taken. The route chosen for the line is not good, there's no much passenger traffic on it, it is also doubled by tram for 70%. In addition, a poorly chosen design of track and trains makes it very slow. Also monorail uses it's own tickets, tickets for the metro and other transport are not valid. Therefore, the monorail did not become popular. It is proposed to demolish the monorail, and to extend the tram line on this route as it was planned during the Soviet era.

The new development plan for the metro until 2020.

black - existing lines;
olive - existing Circle Line;
red - сonstruction by 2015;
blue - сonstruction by 2020;
blue dotted line - possible future lines;
black and brown - railways;
dark orange - Little Ring Railway;
magenta - proposed light rails.

The main priority should become:
  • northern part of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line (red line in the north);
  • new circle line formed of the northern part of the Third Interchange Circuit and the southern part of the Big Circle Line (mostly blue, red in the north-west). It will include the existing Kakhovskaya Line (black in the south).
  • the northern part of the Big Circle Line and the southern part of the Third Interchange Circuit are postponed to the distant future, because they are almost completely duplicated by the Little Ring Railway, which will be converted to passenger service;
  • new Kozhukhovskaya line (blue in the east), integrated with Third Interchange Circuit as it will feature route service;
  • central part of Solntsevskaya Line (red and blue in the center), integrated with the existing Kalininskaya Line;
  • extension of the Sokolnicheskaya Line (red) and construction of a new line (blue) on the new territory of Moscow in the south-west.
This plan is optimistic, as the amount of work is very large, but it shows a change in priorities from construction of roads to development of public transport.

Officials say there will be a single ticket, but it's not clear how it will be realized. Now one has to have a separate ticket for each type of transport, there is no single ticket. It's necessary to create a new payment system.
The Litle Ring Railway will be managed by the special railway company, not by metro. Currently the railway is used only by freight traffic, it is not electrified and has only two tracks. A major reconstruction has to be done. Currently design works are being carried out. It's planned to create transfer complexes, but some transfer stations are not close enough to create a single complex, it will be necessary to go through the street.

Here's a different version of the above map:

A new thing appears to be the extension of Line 2 to Ulitsa Dybenko on the north side of Moscow.

Incidentally, Ulitsa Dybenko is also the name of the eastern terminus of Line 4 in St Petersburg.

I wonder whether most (if not all) of its clips as compiled happen to be old or indeed reveal today's Moscow.
