So is it now 120 floors,, so basically redesign to lower floor height maybe.
I expect 2.5M floor to celling, rather than 2.8M before

Well, Al Habtour/Leighton lost 2 very major contracts recently: DXB Concourse 3 and Tameer Towers Abu Dhabi, so you bet they would go after this one.

"The work will start in the next few days". I like this sentence.
Hoppefully, they didn't change the height.

And Burj al Alam will be a huge tower near Burj Dubai.

The newspaper page did say the height was still 510 meters. However it will now have 120 floors instead of 108.

Piling, U/C or On Hold???? That is the question.

To be, or not to be?

They could better reduce the amount of floors to save money. A reduction in floor height will not make them easyer to sell.

If you did a study on it, more profit would be made by having extra sellable area.

Floor plate is maybe 15,000, so an extra 12 Floors
So an extra 180,000sft of sellable area
Land cost 250AED, so 45,000,000AED
Consruction Cost 500AED, so 90,000,000AED

They would probably try and sell it for 2000 AED sqft plus knowing fortune.

In the U.A.E, biggest is always seen as best, though I totally agree with your comment.
I would of brought the hieght down and widened the floor plate, if not, increase the number of podiums and stuck the extra space lost from the tower hieght.

It depends what the number 108 used to include. Maybe it included only the floors that can be sold, while 120 might be the total number of floors, including basements, podium and mechanicals.

First Burj Al Arab is an hotel, and next, it is 301 meters tall whereas Burj Al Alam will be 510 meters tall.

Or maybe you want to say Burj Duba´ (818meters) instead of Burj Al Arab ?
Burj Duba´ is a mixed used skyscraper (residential, hotels, commercial,...)

The pictures look very promising and I hope that it does not get on hold in the near future. By far one of best looking tower design ever.
