wow, that curl at the end, wow....and so much boat traffic, is that normal? or is it construction related?

I'd hate that circular road to reach te bridge, it would drive you crazy.
But the bridge itself isnt that bad.

I posted this bridge just because of the circular bridge approach road

It looks very special and it's actually a hugh circle. When I was riding on the circle last year, I feel a little dizzy

The local people told me there's no space to build straight approach road because it's in downtown area.

As david said, they can't build it straight because it's located near downtown, probably as a result of bad planning in the first place.

On the other hand it looks really cool to have the bridge spiraling like that!

Shanghai wouldn't be Shanghai if Huangpu River is deserted.

Having the circular approach saves a lot of space because it takes a long of land to build the bridge up to its height above the river.

I actually ate on that ship anchored off the coast beneath the bridge.

I think this is Yangpu bridge, not Nanpu:

There is a double decker bridge approved over the Hangpu. It's called Minpu, but I haven't found any render yet

Yeah. The drive round the spirl can be pretty sketchy in shanghaiese taxis, Personaly I prefer the tunnel, but its a good solution to the problem, they need the height for shipping and as you can see if it was a swing or lifting bridge the river traffic would keep it open all day.

Nice bridge!

It was from this bridge I first saw the Jin Mao. What a sight. I crossed over the bridge on the way from the Maglev-station to my hotel on the Bund. A great way to start a vacation in Shanghai

Anyway, I was wondering if someone could translate the writing on the bridge?

I was just in Shanghai a couple of weeks ago - we ate lunch at the floating restaurant just below the bridge!

WRT trolley buses, I think that if they install trolley to Pudong they would use the East FUxing Road tunnel, as it is closer to commercial area in Pudong. The pics I have though don't show trolley wires through the tunnel as yet though.

Pudong did have trolley-bus for a period of 6 years, the Yan'an Road Tunnel was designed to accomodate trolley-bus. Yan'an Road Tunnel was opened in January of 1989, two cross harbor shuttle bus services started operation immediately, these shuttles bus routes were given names as Tunnel Bus Line X instead of just route numbers. Tunnel Bus Line 5 was converted to bus operation on August 30, 1996 due to the construction of Yan'an Road Viaduct, and never made a recovery, trolley-bus power distribution system in Yan'an Road Tunnel sat idle till this day. When Fuxing Road Tunnel was opened in 2004, Tunnel Bus Line 5 was rerouted to this new tunnel, but after only a few months, this shuttle service was totally eliminated in 2005.

An articulated trolley coach on Tunnel Bus Line 5 was about to enter Yan'an Road Tunnel from Pudong side.
