at this fast construction rate, this line probably would be ready to go in a year or so. After this line is completed, hopefully, the proposed subway line from broadway to the University of BC campus will be the next one up.

Sinkholes on Evergreen Line route have neighbours scared

CTV Vancouver
Published Tuesday, January 13, 2015 4:22PM PST
Last Updated Tuesday, January 13, 2015 7:37PM PST

Port Moody residents living near the Evergreen Line route are scared and frustrated after construction work caused two separate sinkholes in the area.
A tunnel boring machine is being blamed for the sinkholes, which swallowed up ground in a Chateau Place parking lot in October and again just blocks away in early January.
The latest sinkhole happened on Cecile Drive just outside Stuart Dahlke’s window, and tunnel work is set to continue right underneath his townhouse next.

“It scares the crap out of me, to be honest,” Dahlke said. “All of a sudden I’m in my house or my kids are in the house, and it just starts caving away… that’s my biggest concern.”
Local politicians, including Port Moody Coun. Rob Vagramov, said they share residents’ concerns and are unhappy with the lack of information coming from the contractors or province.
“What happens if [the next sinkhole] is under a building? These are very serious concerns, and unfortunately I don’t have an answer,” Vagramov said. “But it’s not my job to answer for these. That’s their job and they’re not doing it.”

Evergreen Line construction manager Nasir Kurji addressed concerned residents on Tuesday, but had few answers to offer.
He said crews are still conducting geotechnical investigations and he hopes to have more information at a meeting planned for Wednesday.
In the meantime, he said the safety of the public and construction crews are the top priority.
“This area has been fenced off and we’re always mindful of the work we’re doing,” Kurji said.
“We’re attempting to characterize the conditions so we can make our next strategy for how to move forward.”
With a report from CTV Vancouver’s Scott Roberts

Tax or no tax, Surrey plans backup funds for light rail
Wednesday, Mar. 04 2015, 8:19 PM

Surrey is working on a Plan B to ensure the fast-growing metropolis gets the light-rail transit line it will need even if a regionwide plebiscite on a 0.5-per-cent hike to the provincial sales tax to fund transit improvements is defeated.

City staff have been working on a detailed cost breakdown and preparing submissions for Ottawa’s PPP Canada wing, which assesses public-private partnerships and decides on federal contributions

Do you mean the tunnel? It's a single bore that will carry parallel tracks. A floor will be laid in there and a wall will divide it into two "tunnels" - the wall is for safety in case of fire. Emergency doors will provide a connection between them for evacuation purposes.

No, I'm talking about at and near Burquitlam Station. The two photos with those labels right above the tunnel pictures.

There is a second track there, it's just badly visible due to the central railing obscuring it.

Are there any plans to extend the new evergreen line from VCC to olympic village so that there would be direct change with Canada line?

Ah, now I see it. My, but that's a thick central railing.

There are proposals to extend line to University of British Columbia, with interchange at Broadway-City Hall station with Canada Line. But it still on planning stage and awaits public approval on upcoming referendum, despite that TransLink wanted to complete Phase 1 by 2020:

Will the UBC Line/Broadway Corridor extension be elevated or underground? It'd obviously be impossible to construct an elevated line connecting the VCC-Clark Station with the Broadway-City Hall Station.

A Skytrain service would be underground although there's been a lot of debate as to whether it should actually be Skytrain or surface LRT instead.
