MSN takes on Google Earth
MSN Virtual Earth To Take On Google Earth
Microsoft sends news today that founder Bill Gates has announced a MSN Virtual Earth service is to debut in the summer. The service is promised to provide: Satellite images with 45-degree-angle views of buildings and neighborhoods Satellite images with street map overlays Ability to add local data layers, such as showing local businesses or restaurants The service will allow users to choose from a number of different data types plus allow people to contribute their own information. wow..looking forward to 45degree angle view that's for sure.
But I think to make it truely "virtual" experience people should be able to scroll through the model as if they are walking down on the street level.. to make it as interactive as possible and to do it all on-line. Hopefully google earth or msn virtual earth will one day evolve into a fully virtual 3d environment (like the Matrix!!!). |

Competition is good!
I hope SE Asia will be well covered with high res images. I also hope they will do something more to prevent people from adding ten information icons to every place of interest.

i have a feeling that MSN virtual earth is going to focus v heavily on US / europe and completely neglect many large cities in Asia.... so the hi-res images and fancy features are likely to be restricted to US cities only...
