On the 1st 4 days since the opening Tokyo Sky Tree town (the whole complex not just the tower) attracted 840,000 visitors.

I flew to Tokyo on the 22nd May but avoided going there till the next day. Though I did not have a ticket reservation to go up, it was an enjoyable trip nonetheless. The Solamachi Mall was really impressive as I expected only souvenir shops. But I could not find any T-shirts to buy.

And after the weekend the visitors total has already topped the 1.4 million.


And there will be more tickets available to go up the tower on weekdays in the period: June 4 ~ July 10.

The tickets can be bought on the official ticket website from May 31, it's not a lottery this time but first come first serve. For every weekday there are a 1,000 extra tickets.

@ ukiyo: Is the east tower an office tower? I should have spend more time exploring that area as well. Thanks for the tip.
@Kimiwind1184: No, I left wonderful Tokyo on Monday night. I really love this city and will be back soon. Being a football fan as well, I'll be back for some J-league matches too.
@Momo1435: Will I still need to have Japanese issued credit cards to buy tickets online?

So the Sky Tree thread in the main section of the site (not in Japan forum) is closed? I thought they will open another one after being completed

The thread in the World Development News Forums was closed as always happens at some point with completed towers. The moderators of the WDN forums had repeatedly asked me if they could close the thread and I always answered that it should stay open until the opening. It already stayed open longer then normal, only the Burj Kalifa was open for a longer period after completion. There's still a thread in the Rate Our Talls section and this this thread of course that I won't close down although at some point it will be unstickied. But not before one of us has actually gone up this tower to provide some pictures of the view.

I won't actively search for pictures on the web anymore, I will just post special pictures that I happen to come by and if there's news. Other people can keep on posting pictures of course....
