Police Station tower

What is known about the West Bar police station tower? Has it been approved? When does construction start? Renders etc.

The proposals were approved last week by the Council which I guess must have been the outline planning application.
Now work will start on the real planning application which is going to take a while I guess. Although the Council added some conditions to their approval for this mixed use development, I do not expect these to have an impact on the WestbarGreen/Scotland St corner tower. The site will have a nice midrise as envisaged in the St. Vincent action plan to compliment the V1 and Metier ones.

Cannot find anything but the below two sketches (and they are really nothing more than that) from two different action plans. Remember if the plans that were approved are an outline planning application, more detailled renders and plans are still a long way off although I sincerely hope I am wrong in this.

Thanks for the info. I expect it will take a while. They have to empty the place of cops first.

Interesting that they say that West Bar is surplus to requirements. I thought it was Sheffield's central cop shop. Are they building a new HQ?

West

May be wrong here but I thought SY Police actually bought the old Dixons building on Nunnery Square, next to the Parkway and staff have already moved from Westbar to there. So they are not constructing something new.
Other staff have moved or will move from Westbar to Attercliffe Station as well as Snig Hill, next to the LawCourts which are the SY Police Headquarters. It may be that some staff remain at Westbar but they should be gone soon.

On a separate note, I understand that eventually the police helicopter will also move to a new helipad at Nunnery Square. It currently operates from Sheffield City Airport.

Tink you're right snup. They have moved to the old dixons as far as i know too.

Also Snig Hill is the main cop shop.

The outline application is what was approved last week, so now the developers will go away and design a detailed scheme, so we will see more detailed sketches/renders once that application is submitted.

West Bar Police Station

You're right dinp.
This is a correct picture of the West Bar police station although soon we will refer to it in the past tense.

Me too. The building is an eye-sore. Maybe something will come along once the West Bar masterplan gets in to action more.

They're taken from the outline permission, but it basically only includes an idea of what the massing of the building may be like, and that it may include offices and residential. Pretty much the most useless application i've ever seen.

New proposals for West Bar Green police HQ

There is some movement again with regards to plans to redevelop the West Bar Green police HQ. A change of use application has been submitted to the council requesting for the building to be converted into a hotel rather than demolition and redevelopment of the whole site as proposed originally.

Outline planning permission for demolition and redevelopment into offices and apartments was granted back in 2005 but the new plans do away with all of that and instead aim to refurbish the existing buildings and create a 117 room 3-star hotel. The aim is to overhaul and reclad all the buildings to tie them together into a more coherent and aesthetically pleasing building.

Sounds a sensible proposal.

There are already loads of apartments and offices down at this end of town so a hotel would be a welcome addition to the mix.

I thought I'd seen something on this somewhere recently but can't remember where. Seems a sensible idea, the building isn't a bad size and a full redevelopment is unlikely these days.

My friend lives in Metis across the road and has been concerned about losing views or people being able to see in to his flat. He'll be pleased by this!
