Do advertising signs on top ruin the skyscraper?

Do you think giant advertising signs ruin the beauty of the skyscraper? Such examples are the ones in HK.

I was actually referring to the ones on the top of the building, not the side. But we can consider the sides as well

This Times Square building has ads along the sides and at the top as well.

Ads suck the life out of the Flatiron.

Speaking of the Flatirong Bldg, the ad has been removed and the scaffolding is just about down.

I prefer ones without it on top. On the sides, it's alright, but on top, it wrecks the overall shape of the skyscraper.

Very true. Alot of skyscrapers in HK have them especially those from Causeway Bay to Admiralty.

I actually hate it but they brighten the place up at night.

I don't mind the lighting decorations and ads on the sides of the buildings but I do mind the signs on the top.

AIG in HK is a nice example of a good modern one. Usually I think the newer signs typically hurt the building and the skyline.

However, I LOVE old classic signs that are lit up at night; they add a lot of character. Some have very pleasing styles too. In Chicago I'm thinking of the Michigan Avenue streetwall (they should have never gotten rid of the Torco sign) and also the Drake. So it all depends.

I actaully like those classic signs and they do work for Chicago's buildings. But I think they're better of in mid-rises than high-rises.

I like ads on buildings very much. I hate just lights from the buildings, so boring!

But that ain't no science fiction buddy, it's the real thing.

Anyway, I would mind having these signs as long as it's not a landmark building.

It depends. If it's well designed and integrated with building's design it doesn't have to look ugly. The problem is that most of them are a late add-on.
