UAE's Construction Worker Issues

Thanks to Dubailife for the idea, I have started a petition. I know it sounds over ambitious but it's the least we can do here at SSC. Please read it and sign it if you approve of it. I have mentioned the UAE SSC forumers as the representatives of the petition.

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO SPREAD THE WORD AND GET AS MANY SIGNATURES AS POSSIBLE.

This will not result in anything. It is a waste of time.

Think of a way to help that will actually make a difference.

A good idea might be to send it in to one of the papers like 7days or gulfnews or something once there are enough signatures

well the governement is responsible for making sure that these companies follow the rules and they should be punished really harshly for breaking them, i mean after all its in their interest too since it will not damage the image of dubai

So this is how they can afford to build these towers? Cheap land + cheap labour + cheap credits.

They would be profitable anyway. Now they simply earn more profits.

Signed.

Forward this petition to a few prominent social-commentary blogs, or it won't get anywhere.

Didnt really agree 100% about min wage, think they should be made completely clear about what they are paid and how much they will have to pay for food and accommodation before they leave home. They should have strict contracts regulations and be enforced by law. It should be made a serious crime to withold a passport. But anyway its

Signed, My mom & dad visted Dubai, my dad's friend from India had a son working in Dubai for 11 years, he hasnt returned home since, he dying to see his family but his seniors wont allow it, he has to see of his contract first. My folks have seen first hand on how they treat the contruction workers in Dubai, & it saddens me to see how human beings treat each other. They were working in the heat of hell & dont get sufficient time to rest. Its maddness I tell you!
