Is it a coincidence that the feedback section on the official Emaar website is not functional?

Its been down for the last few months....Hmmm...."lets show-off and build the world's tallest tower to piss on everyone's faces, but lets have a really shit website that doesn't function and let ppl give us feedback, coz we dont need ppl's feedback, we know everything already and we dont take advice from anyone..na na nana naaa!!"

Dickheads Emaar.

That petition is worded excellently! Commendable. How did you draft that and put together that website so quickly? Hope more people will sign. Where do will go from here? By the way, I'll put a link on my website. Great job, Krazy.

I refuse to sign.

a] because i dont think the majority of construction workers are that upset with their pay. [those strikes the other day were not about pay, or working conditions belive it or not]

b] because it excludes workers in other industries, some of whom are treated far worse but casualy ignored.

c] the workers are their volentaraly and 88% renew there contracts

d]i dont think a manner this direct is by any means the best way to address the problem.

the burj dubai strikes werent about working conditions but about overtime pay and unpaid time for being on site an hour early and an hour late each day.

while i agree with you that a lot of the construction workers are okay with the system, to be fair, there has to be an option for those who are not okay with the system. remember, these people signed contracts and had to pay thousands in visa and travel fees, it is unfair to expect them not to be compensated if their employers renege on the terms of their contracts.

im unaware of workers in other industries that are treated worse. abused maids are worse but those are isolated incidents as opposed to the systematic abuse of worker rights. what kind of other industries are you referring to?

a manner this direct is the only way to solve a problem. previously, the government has done much to go after companies one at a time... but it simply does not have the ability to keep all companies in check. therefore, the workers must take control of the situation rather than wait for help that will not come.

I have seen reports--sorry cannot provide specifics of when or where--that the labor ministry had so few workers to actually visit companies that it served no pratical function with regard to monitoring company abuses. It was something like 3 officials for several hundred or thousands of companies. Then there are the courts which take years to settle disputes, if they settle them at all. So, there was virtually nothing in place to investigate worker complaints until a hotline system was introduced late last year. People need recourse and this is where the government has come up short.

If they don't like their jobs I suppose they are free to leave them and even to go back to their native countries where they will surely find better conditions

Commie thread.

These workers came to work under a contract, which was agreed upon under their consent.

Take it or leave it!

But, I am against deteriorating unhuman working conditions--but refuse to go as far as the proposal would say

Halawala... with all due respect, haven't you read others' posts where they mention that these companies in many cases are not honoring the terms of work that were promised. Some of them go months without paying salaries. This isn't what these workers signed up for!

Furthermore, they often can't "leave it!" without incurring further penalties--like a ban for 6 months on working in the country again, like threats from the company to withhold payments if they try to quit, etc. In many cases these guys work the first 2 or 3 months without receiving payment. This money is held by the company until the worker's complete their contracts. So, you see, if they just leave it, they lose 2 or 3 months pay just like that. This is a clear abuse of worker rights and this is not what people are signing on for.
