Miglin-Beitler Skyneedle. Reminds me a lot of a cross between Burj Dubai and Empire State Building.

Other then they were both tall and have numerous setbacks crowning to a pinacle I don't see too much resemblance. Skyneelde harkens back more as an ode to a modern ESB/Chrysler hybrid.
From Emporis....The basic form of the building was to be an elongated version of 181 West Madison, a 680-foot building across the street built by the same architect and developers. It basically would have been a taller version of this..... http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=117219 |

I also go with The Skyneedle in Chicago. I liked that tower. However, the tower would also look good if it was constructed in New York.

Seems like virtually EVERYBODY is choosing the Chicago Skyneedle.......... which is nice, but it would be interesting to see some OTHER suggestions too.

Almost all of the best cancelled scrapers are in Chicago. If not The Skyneedle, there's 7 Dearborn.
Anyway, here's one in HK which is the original plan for the Nina Tower. At that time, the original plan was aimed for world's tallest but they have to cut off the height because of it's proximity to Chek Lap Kok (airport). The orignal building resembles that of The Chrysler Building

Emerald Tower in Brisbane
http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=158387 It would've fit perfectly into the skyline...funny thing is, it got rejected apparently because it would look out of place in the skyline!!!
