sixty years ago, upon the invitation of the Russian Red Cross, Princess Ashraf Pahlavi, twin sister of the Shah of Iran, went to see Stalin in order to demand the retrieval of Soviet invading forces from Iran. The princess entered the Kremlin where she pleaded with great passion for the liberation of Iran, her motherland. Impressed by her courage, Stalin became all smiles. He said loudly to his rather stern entourage: "Now here is a brave and true patriot." Pravda, June 28, 1946.

Wouldn't the defense department veto such a skyscraper even if it was technically feasible? Don't they own the airspace above a certain height?

Yes, as I said at the beginning, this is for cancelled skyscrapers - i.e. projects that were serious proposals to begin with.

The Mile High Skyscraper was never a serious proposal.

And btw - could you PLEASE use the discussion thread. It takes ages to setup these contests and it's annoying when I have to sift through all the discussions in the "nominations" thread...

The Mile High Tower was never technically CANCELLED.

What do you think the Burj Dubai is?

Not exactly a skyscraper, but it's almost shame it's cancelled: Beacon of Progress, Chicago. Height: 457.2 m / 1500 ft. Proposed in 1900.

The Beacon of Progress, 1900
