They get up in the morning, brush their teeth, eat breakfast, go to work, come home, eat dinner, pay bills, etc.... just like everywhere else. They don't treat strangers on the street any differently than we would here. People like to generalize and stereotype and put everyone into a nice, neat little box, so they tend to say people from country A are cold and people from country B are warm, etc..(it even happens here within our own country when one area wants to feel better about themselves than another area). To me, I get warm reactions from people whom I give warm feelings to. If I am friendly, I get friendliness back. So, I try not to make stereotypes about entire nations as I find I have an easy time meeting people everywhere I go!

One barrier can be language, however.... if you visit a country and cannot speak the language or do not have an interpretor with you, it can seem very cold and unfriendly, as you cannot
communicate fully with the people.
Very well said

Thanks, everyone! I forgot to post the photos from our Brazil Day last month in this thread, so here they are! Was a bit of a chilly dip from previously warm temperatures, but people kept dancing to warm up the Square! For years there has been a big party in New York to celebrate Brazil Day, and three years ago Globo television to include Canada, by bringing it here the day after New York. The feature performing band was Exaltasamba, from Rio.

Many of these costumes were brought here from Rio, and had been made for the Carnival there. There is a story that is told by all of the costumes:

this woman belted out the Canadian National Anthem:

This man sang the Brazilian national anthem:

a local Canadian/Brazilian rapper Diogo Snow:

they had Pandeiro competitions for men, and Samba dancing competitions for women. Both got a rather generous $500 prize!!

This woman is a Brazilian singer in New York City. She was enjoyable, but her set did go on rather a long time:

a local Samba squad:

and finally the featured headliners, Exaltasamba!!!!

Great day out!

Okay! Had fun on Monday afternoon when I went to Brazil Day Canada 2013 here in Toronto, one day after the show appeared in New York City. They try and get a different type of music star every year and this year brought up the new Country music superstar Gustavvo Lima. As always the M.C. was Serginho Groisman. Aside from Gustavvo, there was lots of other local singers and DJ's keeping the afternoon party going. Usually the party was at Yonge-Dundas Square, but this year moved to the much bigger and more diverse Nathan Philip's Square (the site of our City Hall).

Our Toronto City Hall, which was completed in 1965, almost half a century ago:

in the back left you can see our Old City Hall that was built in 1899:

water fountains always seem to make people want to kiss!

City Hall is very close to the business heart of Toronto:

Anyhow, here is Gustavvo, and he was an excellent performer!!
