I was passing this site last night and it seems demolition is soon to begin on the rundown warehouse currently occupying the site. The tower sits on the edge of the rail tracks leading eastwards out of Stratford station and on Angel Lane with the lower rise portion aligned next to the railway.

From the website I can count twenty storeys but I'm not sure how tall this is. The location though will mean views of the upcoming Stratford City skyline, the Olympic Village to the north and Olympic Park, as well as the existing Stratford Town Centre.

No this is just slightly north of the ring road around the town centre. It's next to the railway line running east out of the station and Angel Lane which runs north towards Leyton.

The Broadway Malyan tower is to the west of Stratford closer to Pudding Mill Lane and the Olympic Stadium.

There's a small derelict building on the site, and the rest of it is overgrown but I have no idea what the status of the planning is. The site is directly next door to the Stratford High Street entrance to the Olympic Park, so I guess they'll have some kind of relationship construction-wise.

Stratford Eye, Newham
Work is well underway on a spectacular £40 million regeneration scheme in Stratford that is helping to kick-start East London's Olympic facelift.

The centre-piece of the L&Q scheme will be a futuristic 19-storey tower called the Stratford Eye, which will house 62 state-of-the-art apartments for sale.

L&Q also plans to build 49 affordable homes for rent, 49 shared ownership homes and a new headquarters for some of our north London staff.

In an area which is likely to see a proliferation of expensive residential property in the coming years, we are keen to provide affordable social housing so that Stratford can retain its identity and not become an exclusive enclave for the wealthy.

The development, which is being built five minutes from Stratford station on the site of an old industrial building at the former Marylands Works, will be one of the first regeneration projects in East London as the capital gears up for the 2012 Olympics.

L&Q secured planning permission from Newham Council and work got underway at the end of 2005. It is hoped the work will be completed by the end of 2007.

Simon Baxter, Principal Development Manager in L&Q’s North Thames Region, said: “We’re creating a mixed community which will reflect Newham’s vibrant diversity with permanent jobs that will help the local economy to grow.

“L&Q were committed to making this major investment in Stratford irrespective of the Olympic decision, but we’re even more excited about it now because we’ll have a front row seat from our offices as the stadiums are built.

“Stratford Eye will become a key landmark in East London and set a benchmark for other projects in its wake.
“We’re bringing at least 150 permanent jobs to Stratford, with the office relocation on top of the numerous construction jobs provided to build the scheme.”

Stratford Edge, London

background and brief
The brief from the client, Manser Homes, was to provide a 'landmark building' marking the entrance to Stratford, East London.

The Stratford Edge scheme comprises 217 residential apartments, with a mix of 1 and 2 bedroom units making up the majority of the development. 1,000 sq.m. of commercial use is also provided.

Nice design

Judging by its proximity to the two red-and-yellow 1960's point blocks its quite far south of Startford proper though... halfway to Plaistow.

I like the look of both of these proposals. But do we have to tolerate the use of the name 'Eye'. I mean everything is an 'Eye' now. Stratford Eye, Brighton Eye!

*goes outside coz obviously overdue for a ciggie*

Halfway to Bow, they are on Stratford High Street heading westwards out of Stratford and literally on th eedge of the Olympic Park. They'll go for a bomb.

Talking about Stratford, isn't the new retail sector of the stratford development scheme meant to start construction soon?

Yep, its an up and coming area, with the Olympics, an under construction Eurostar Terminal and other comprehensive transport links.
