The developer pulled the planning application, and demolition of the site began and two days later halted.

Does anyone know when the two tower blocks close to the Greenway on the opposite side of the road to all the developments featured on this thread were painted? For those who don't know them (and perhaps Metroranger might have a pic?) they are painted the same insipid shade of light blue that adornes council doorways across the land, with each block separated by blocks of primary colours.

Obviously someone thought the design would compliment the Icona building across the road. Neighbouring councils have managed to repaint their tower blocks an unobtrusive white, but Newham Council (now taken over by arms-lenght management Newham Homes) always has to be different. Many blocks feature the balconies picked out in the same shade of pink used in the Newham logo. Why do planners see this as a good thing?

I think it was more the colours of the Olympic rings. I'm not what Jacques Rogge will think as he disembarks opposite them in the southern spectator mall and traverses the Greenway to the stadium.

I started driving on the District Line in 1999, and they were already painted then. So: in the last century, at some point!

Oops just saw DarJoLe's post... I didn't realise they'd been painted again

Is this the first example of council blocks being refurbished twice?
