The French statistical office has published the results of the 2008 census. On January 1, 2008 the Paris metropolitan area had 11,899,544 inhabitants (within its 1999 borders). That's an increase of 62,574 people compared to Jan. 1, 2007, i.e. +0.53%. This increase is a little smaller than the year before (2006) when the population had increased by 67,537 people, i.e. +0.57%. In 2007 the number of births declined slightly, and net migration also declined. In 2008 the number of births rebounded, and as for net migration we'll find out next year when the results of the Jan. 2009 census are published (the census now takes place every year in France, and the results are published 3 years later).

French Pentagone : the 'major architectural gesture' to be unveiled on 11 january

Quote:

If the USA are using an Italian Pentagonal fortress as the Pentagon, we should be modeling ours after these citadels by Vauban .

Some good & 'bad' news...

Let's start with the bad news:

While the Fondation Louis Vuitton pour La Création is coming along nicely (cf above pics), its building permit was amazingly cancelled. Therefore work was halted at once owing to those f...kg opponents. This forced 'break' should last about a couple of months (minimum) before being hopefully given a new 'go ahead'..
----> http://www.lemoniteur.fr/133-amenage...uitton-a-paris
(Let's hope work will resume asap)

13/10/2010

The good news is aimed at the Philharmonie de Paris whose work (suspended for 10 months), is now to resume mid february!

Great news today. The Region Ile de France and the State has announced the realisation by 2025 of the most important urban transport plan ever in Europe and one of the most important in the world.

Some figures:

Cost : 32,4b€
Length : Around 150 km

Just to give an order of magnitude, central Paris (around 10km*10km) is the grey area in the center of the map.

The complete map here.

Render of the new Batignolles distict under construction in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, with a 160m tower that will host the Paris courts of justice. From the render, it looks like the buildings in this new district will be taller than the average buildings in Central Paris.

This is how the area looked like last year:
