Bastille Day's celebrations

A giant firework display, the military procession down the Champs-Elysées and Firemen’s Balls: celebrate the French national holiday in Paris! The bal musette dances begin on 13 July. Discover the programme below. On 14 July watch the fireworks live from 11 pm on Paris' official website HERE.

Quote:
The military procession on 14 July

The traditional 14 July military procession will start at 9 am on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées.

The troops will set off at 9 am and descend the Champs-Elysées from the Arc de Triomphe to Concorde.

The official theme of this procession is “the army in transition”. Peace-keeping soldiers and the blue and green berets of the UN will take part in the military parade for the first time. The highlights of the procession include the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Bir Hakeim, the 70th anniversary of the creation of three units of the Free French Air Force (FAFL), the 70th anniversary of the creation of the signal corps with the honouring of eight signal regiments and the 220th anniversary of the French national anthem, the Marseillaise.

Free. Procession on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées from 9 am.

Metro: Champs-Elysées Clémenceau or Franklin Roosevelt

The fireworks on 14 July

This is the highlight of the national holiday. The fireworks will start at 11 pm. On 14 July, the skies of Paris will light up to the theme of disco (‘70’s and ‘80s).

You will be able to see the fireworks live again this year on Paris.fr. You can watch the broadcast of the show on your computer from 11 pm.

What is the best way to see the fireworks?

For the best view of the fireworks you are strongly advised to arrive early. Avoid coming by car or even by bus. The metro and the RER are the best ways of getting there. Equally, all the Vélib’ stations around the Champs de Mars will be empty and inaccessible.

The fireworks will take place at the Trocadéro Gardens. To make the most of this pyrotechnical spectacle, we recommend that you admire the fireworks from the opposite bank of the Seine (Champs de Mars-Tour Eiffel side). The Parvis des Droits de l'Homme is also a great place to enjoy the fireworks.

Free. 14 July at 11 pm for 35 minutes.

Metro: Bir Hakeim; RER (line C): Champ de Mars/Tour Eiffel.
Watch the fireworks live at 11pm on Paris.fr.

Welcoming the soldiers

The “Parisians and Ile-de-France residents welcome their soldiers” operation is an opportunity for people to meet the men and women who provide today’s defence in a pleasant environment and to discuss their jobs and missions with them.

It will take place in the afternoon of 14 July at eight sites in Paris, the largest of which are the Esplanade des Invalides and the Place de la Nation.

Quote:
13 and 14 July: dance with firemen

The Paris Fire Brigade is organising its traditional balls on 14 July. Forty fire stations will be open in Paris and in départements close to Paris on 13 and/or 14 July. From 9 pm to 4 am.

Entry may be free or there may be a charge (depending on the station), but the price will be very reasonable.

Montparnasse Tower in 'Bleu, Blanc, Rouge'

The Montparnasse tower will also be lit up in the the french flag colors to celebrate the 'Bastille Day'. A firework display will also take place, it will be 'of a new kind' & festive. Another must see .

Archi5 creates a sports facility contained in a matte black box in the French capital

By taking surrounding public spaces into consideration when designing the project, Archi5 reinforced the notion that this building is a public facility, a landmark within the surrounding disorder. The project's design and planning is based upon a thorough understanding of the local context, responding to existing scales. Its location and architecture denote the space´s public nature and inject new life into the site.

So as to allude to a mind's eye view the architects asked focused on drawing attention to the building without stirring up too much controversy. A key aim was to spark off people's curiosity and a thirst for mystery: a child's fascination to know what is inside a big box. This is what led to design of a huge, sombre monolith, a break from local architecture, with rows of pink houses or over complex public buildings.

Curiosity is satisfied once the used discovers the entrance on a raised corner. The design makes passer-bys see something different to what the residents see through an interplay between different elements; the roof garden offering an alternative landscape - a hanging square. On the inside, the surfaces adapt and follow the height of the different sports areas. This creates a dynamic between the different components of the project. The monolith is deconstructed by the variety of stones used to clad the façade and the way these are pieced together, like a construction set. The building changes depending on the angle from which you look at it, the time of day, the light or the season.

This single structure houses the main functions of the programme: fencing/table tennis hall, dance hall, combat areas and other activities. The building's compact nature is its greatest environmental asset. Natural light floods in, in spite of the solid façades. Vertical window panels allow light to be controlled and adapted to the needs of the sport being practiced. Archi5 designed this facility to be simple, powerful and almost timeless.

Very impressive! I now understand why Paris doesn't have a big firework show for New Year's, they keep it all for the 14 juillet!

Welcome .

That's the main reason Int'l...Paris cannot afford 2 huge fireworks (500 000€ each) for both our National day & for the New Year's Eve. The last time they did that was for a special event, the Y2K transition.

A choice had to be made, & our Bastille Day's fireworks got the priority.

tragic love story of Lancelot and Guinevere, and the notion of the Grail quest were all French

10 Dwellings in Pajol / Bourbouze & Graindorge

Architects: Bourbouze & Graindorge
Location: 18th arrondissement of Paris, Paris, France
Project Year: 2012
Project Area: 930.0 sqm
Client: Siemp
Photographs: Philippe Ruault, David Boureau

This project started as a diagnosis on an existing building, and it is only after a precise analysis of the construction, that the choice of a demolition / reconstruction was made. Indeed, the existing building, built at the beginning of the century, was of a small interest, architecture and urban wise, and was handicapped by a very constraining inner organization, that made his restructuration impossible. The project is thus conceived as the ghost of the former building, but also as an antidote to the problems it was revealing.

Another lawsuit against the Tours Hermitage was defeated in court last week. The anti-skyscraper association which filed the lawsuit had forgotten to pay the stamp duty when filing their lawsuit.
