Yeah, I just found the thread mentioning it. My bad then. But then this project from what I understand was revealed in the beginning of 2006, and I wonder if it's still going on unchanged, since it doesn't fit with the La Défense revival plan announced last July.

I dont have a problem with Paris and would like to see some pics of new towers etc. I also dont see Paris and London as rivals as they are completely different.
I would love to visit some day ans take in the real Paris, so my Parisian friends what can you show me?

We now know the names of the 10 architects/architect firms taking part in the architect contest for the "tour signal", which will be the tallest skyscraper in La Défense and possibly also the tallest skyscraper in Western Europe. The winner will be selected on November 24.

Here are the contestants:
- Jacques Ferrier
- Norman Foster
- Massimiliano Fuksas
- Manuelle Gautrand
- Herzog et De Meuron
- Rem Koolhaas
- Thom Mayne
- Nicolas Michelin
- Jean Nouvel
- Dominique Perrault

The last project by Dominique Perrault is more likely to be a project in Wien.

In case some people didn't understand it, those pictures are exemples of the architects previous works, not actual propositions for Paris...

A new rendering of the Generali Tower, made by a French forumer. On the foreground stands the 225m/738ft renovated Axa Tower, then 110 meters (120 yards) behind it is the 179m/587ft Gan Tower, and 50 meters (60 yards) behind the Gan Tower is the 308m/1,010ft Generali Tower. Nobody knows the actual color of the Generali Tower's cladding, so the blue color here is the French forumer's personal vision. A very nice rendering anyway.

Note: For a sense of proportions, this picture was taken from across the Seine River, at a distance of 630 meters (690 yards) from the renovated Axa Tower.

What scares me is the line "will constitute a new signal on the skyline of LD"
I am not sure when did Generali start the competition, nor what the other projects were, but I wonder if they had a competition in mind against the Tour Signal that Bled wants, the height, the location that will mask the new signal tower behind from the historical axis, the wanted architectural statement, etc.

it's different, I give you that. is the spire functional, or just a design element?

It doesn't seem to be functional. They could use that to put some wind turbines there!

There was an architect contest, and this is the design which won the contest.

The design is outstanding for La Défense (which has been boxy as hell so far). But it has nothing outstanding in worldwide architecture.

I hope "Tour Signal" will be taller and with way more personality.
