(apologies for the thumb)

The structure left feels very awe-inspiring, like the skeleton of a marine monster left on a beach, between ships.

alexandru.mircea, that's great. I've also noticed how they are destroying a lot of warehouses in Seine-Saint-Denis and making new social housings there. I really like when social housings are lower and not as high, especially all those post-war ones which are pretty ugly and pollute the skyline in my opinion. But thanks for the info!

Is anyone currently working on that cinema?

Those arches look like they could be restored nicely. Too bad they won't be preserved.

What I love about my city is that it's so modern, yet you can find the great architecture of Haussmann and some even older stuff by far!

Reinventing Paris: Start-up city
A capital seen as a museum develops new pockets of high-tech modernity

http://www.economist.com/news/europe...2Fstart-upcity

Quote:
It may not be Berlin or London, but something is taking place in the capital’s fringes and deserted industrial spaces. A city with more beauty and heritage than most, Paris is trying to shrug off its staid image. Scarcely a week goes by without an event devoted to start-ups in a converted dock or warehouse in an unfashionable area. On Paris’s eastern edge, Xavier Niel, an entrepreneur who heads a €12 billion ($13.5 billion) communications group, is building a start-up incubator with floor space equivalent to four football pitches. In the first quarter of 2015 a Paris venture-capital firm was joint-top investor in European technology start-ups, with two German companies, according to CB Insights, an American research group.

“There has been a transformation of mentalities in France,” says Mr Niel, who urges young people to take risks, think big and break conventions. “Entrepreneurship is a state of mind” reads a banner at NUMA, also home to Google’s Paris campus. The outlook is anti-hierarchical and anti-conformist. “Our force is cultural chaos,” says Frédéric Oru, a co-director. Another NUMA executive adds: “It’s not very French.”

To be honest, I'd love if they just renovate inner city (these 105km2), and build up la petite couronne. It'd be real dream - washed and cleaned up Paris) Remembering differences between old and new look of Conciergerie)

They will sooner or later, I mean more than half of inner paris is already top notch way more rich than London. All the Belle Quartiers are very nice, 16e arrondissement, 7e, 8e, etc.. Very big arrondissements as well. The 16e to me is perfect, nothing to be fixed. Same with the 8e. I just think they should fix Le Marais and make it more like SOHO in London. The streets are small so they converted them all into walking areas and paved them with a nice looking ground and touched up all the buildings.

I'm happy I'm not the only one that finds this monstrosity absolutely hideous. It looks fun in the drawings, but I think it'll be too Disney-fake in real life, and how will it age???

Sorry for forgetting to respond. I was there twice recently and there didn't seem to be any activity onsite. I hope something is happening and the project is changed, because I really don't like it as it is now. Such a missed opportunity to make something truly interesting, like the Fondation Pathé.
