Monkey posting, a travel through time.

Duo towers approved? And is anyone planning on tearing down the ugly Olympiades towers? Someone should make a proper Chinatown in this area too.. There is no actual proper china town in Paris despite it having the largest chinese population of any European city..

Paris-Saclay University area/research centre update

All photos from this month.

Again, this is a MASSIVE project worth billions of euros. This is a mega university area where the new Metro Line 15 will run directly here.

lol, apparently construction was susposed to start in 2012 and finish by 2017 but you know.. this is France xD... Oppositions have so much power and debates take wayyy too long. There should be more direct power especially since this property doesn't belong to anyone that should be opposed to it...

In this specific case it is not a question of opponents but promoter Unibail Rodamco: technically i think they got all required approvals but i think they waited for the decision of Triangle project before starting anything with Phare

Please keep you bad and childish ideas for yourself.
Olympiades is a fantastic area and a REAL living "chinatown". Not some kind of marketed museum.

I can only prompt all tourists in Paris to go visit both 70's modernist areas that have been built "sur dalle" (with a pedestrian concrete slab above street level), Olympiades and Beaugrenelle. These are fantastic parisian neighborhoods that give a radically different perspective on this city.

I never said the area wasn't fantastic. And childish? My father used to live here lol. The towers in the olympiades don't fit with the city of paris. They are way too tall and too dull now. But what I meant was, they need to actually innagurate an official china town since Paris does has the largest chinese population of any european city. And yes this area is fascinating. I had a friend come from abroad who had never seen France, and I showed him this area and he thought it was amazing. He's from USA and he told me Paris was more diverse than NYC from what he had seen.

Also I said they need to kind of market this area a bit more and make it more "touristy" because not many tourists know about the chinatown (s).

But you shouldn't call my opinions childish. These are my opinions.. I just think the tower blocks of the Olympiades destroy the skyline of Paris. I like the skyline pre 1960s where the only thing that rises up in the current city limits is the Eiffel Tower. But now there are in my opinon, ugly 70s tower blocks that can be seen on top of any building in Paris. I live how La Défense looks from Paris, but I hate the look of social housing blocks from 70s.

I'll just say, I'm not a fan of 70s tower blocks and the structure(s) I hate most in Paris is the Beaugrenelle towers even though they are luxury to an extent, they really defigure Paris. There was a poll done recently and 30% of people who took the pole wanted Beaugrenelle to be destroyed. I don't know how many people it involved though.

Todays' skyscrapers are much more attractive with their curvatures and incredible forms, unlike the 70s where everything was straight. I like how most of the social housing that they are making now isn't so tall and if it is taller, it doesn't look bad at all and it's using different materials.

Well, in my opinion, calling for destruction is absolutely childish.

You don't seem to be able to tolerate prefab concrete buildings of the 60's and 70's eras, ok that's indeed an opinion. But you are very assertive about what should be granted life or death in terms of architecture whereas these buildings and their environment have shaped the city and are very interesting pieces of urban planning when one takes the time to consider it with an open and curious mindset.

What will be your "opinion" when curvy glass and steel buildings will be out of fashion? Because, you know, this is all just cycles and there's no doubt that, one day, someone, on this same forum, will complain about those ugly, tacky, glassy scrapers from the 2010's and will call for their erasure...

My point of view is that these ensembles are huge pieces of urban life and have been planned with a vision and a real care for details so, instead of neglecting them, we should make all our possible to maintain them in good state and shape and enable them to remain modern, vibrant and inspiring places to live in.

Architecture deserves respect.

Not the largest, nor the most spectacular project in Paris, but definitively the most important.
