This is pretty disappointing for skyscraper fans and a poor showing for a large world city like Paris.

There must be limited demand for office space in Paris or limited inward investment. Is this a result of slow growth and economic stagnation in the Eurozone?

Whatever the reason, there isn't much to get excited about. The Metro extension is welcome and long overdue, but other than that there doesn't appear to be many large scale developments, especially in regard to skyscrapers, which is after all what this forum is about. The Olympics may help Paris, but LA will provide stiff competition!

First of all, the Palais de Justice is already under construction for at least a year or so now, the tour duo will be under construction soon as the working ground have already been prepared.

No one wants skyscrapers in Paris proper, this isn't London. La Défense has many ongoing projects, and at least 5 skyscrapers to be constructed. You also have a few skyscrapers planned for some other areas in the metro area.

Yes there are big projects happening in Paris, especially with the expansion of the city limits next year, they are already building the 25 billion euro new metro and train network.

Also, in the Saclay area, they are currently building a huge city of universities and research labs where the new metro will go.

London seems to be building more upwards while Paris is building outwards and some upwards too, but more so outwards.

I'm just assuming you're more familiar with London so I made the comparison.

Well, you must bear in mind that what is being done in London will never be done in Paris. The architectural style in Paris is one of a kind, incredibly proctected, and parisians, unlike the Londoners, truly hate tall buildings. What Boris Jonhson has allowed in terms of constructions -I mean the erection of hundreds of highrises/skyscrapers- is very badly perceived in Paris, it looks totally insane from a parisian point of view, not to say scary...for many of them, London is being disfigured...

Even though I love skyscrapers/highrises, I would never hope such a fate for Paris, all we need is a handle of beautiful tall buildings on the outskirts of the capital, that's it...but unfortunately, many of you underestimate what it takes to make a skyscraper come to fruition in Paris, that's an assault race, almost endless...way too many régulations and a fierce opposition from the the nimbies/Greens & so forth...

You shouldn't call London ugly, it's a cool city too, I like it a lot. In my honest opinion, Both Paris and London are pretty much equal, even though I say I like Paris more.... I love both cities, they are both just amazing!

I haven't mentioned London once, you two keep bringing it up!

For what it's worth I hope Hermitage gets built, love the high tech design, straight out of the Fosters / Rogers School, and ironically very London. I fear it won't get off the ground.

This project has already been approved and scheduled to start very soon. They have already relocated around 200 or so people from the apartment building currently standing on the area.

Congratulations, I sincerely hope they get built as in my opinion La Défense would possibly become the best skyline in Europe.

As for the rest of your comments, ever since your account was created you have shown a rather large contempt for London. Both cities are great!

RE tower height, last time this discussion was had here, forum member charpentier said there is a height limit in La Défense because of air flight trajectories. Since then, I've moved in a place near La Défense and I can testify it is true, there are planes flying really, really low above my house. They can go so low that it would seem they are about to land somewhere close but I don't know where, CdG is over 20 kilometres away. Le Bourget is closer but some of the planes are too large to be private jets.
