OXyGen

Quote:
OxyGen is the winning project for the developement of La Défense’s Vignes area. OxyGen is a door ,a physical and visual input penetrating from the tracks and the banks of Neuilly sur Seine. This bow is a reception for Le Grand Parvis’s promenade. The slab is mineral, and we propose to finish the walk by a wide and generous flower garden connected to new restaurants and surrounded by many open terraces , covered or outdoors . The design of the master plan will play an important role in our project, not only because of the user’s well-being and flow management, but also because it is noticeable from the towers all around. It’ll be an invitation to visually discover the many places. This ” picture ” then offers a landscape in constant evolution.

Inspired by the tradition of romantic gardens of the 19th century, we wish to recreate green areas while remaining contemporary. A kind of vegetal Tivoli with different varieties of bushes and grasses but also large vegetated cavities of different sizes to invite people to shelter from the sun, rain and wind if weather requires so.

As well, restaurants and open kiosks are entirely prefabricated in workshops to be delivered in kit on site, without any noise or pollution for local residents, office workers and surrounding hotel’s residents. Kiosks are dispersed throughout the park, and will be both terraces and stroll areas.

The architectural and landscape design of the project does not dissociates any element of the site. Indeed, ground treatments stretch in kiosks and extend tto the park and restaurants, for an unfiltered experience on two levels. Thus, La Defense bow is transformed, and opens a “camouflage” park with an inhabited bridge opened on the Seine: a new playground for both La Defense and Paris.

Urban jungle: The Parisian 'floating village in a forest' that will have a hotel, restaurant, views of the Eiffel Tower - and 1,000 trees

French and Japanese architects collaborated to create the design, winner of the Réinventer Paris competition. It will rejuvenate a large ring road area in the 17th arrondissement of Paris and feature a 250-room four-star hotel. There will be homes and office space as well as a bio-park, where residents can learn about bee keeping

Paris is building a 'floating village inside a forest' as part of a new project to rejuvenate the city. The futuristic design, a collaboration between a French and a Japanese architectural company, was one of the winners of the Réinventer Paris competition. As well as apartments and restaurants, the new living space will feature a hotel with views of the Eiffel Tower - all hidden among some 1,000 trees.

The 'mille arbres' village, based over a ring-road in the 17th arrondissement, is designed to be as friendly for travellers as it is useful for local residents, according to French firm Oxo Architectes. There will be 127 homes and a 250-room four-star hotel alongside office and public spaces.

If they're not going to bother building something which fits within the area why not build something that's distinctively Moroccan rather than something as bland as that?

^ I don't think something "distinctively" Moroccan would be a good idea, if the building does not have a "distinctively" Parisian look then it has to be something rather neutral. But that building is not completely neutral though, I do perceive the reference (through the paneling) to traditional Moroccan decorations (especially ceramics walls). It's not bland either IMO, I like it.

Buildings in heavily charged foreign styles have a place in the city of course, but IMO if they are detached buildings, like the pagoda of the Bataclan or the new Russian orthodox centre. It's IMO not the case for hausmannian row-houses, there should be a more limited freedom of how to replace one in such a front.

Still far better than all "Réinventer Paris" projects that were ridiculously small, with plants everywhere. Whatever, this is not even a "project".
