Repurposing of La Poste du Louvre by Dominique Perrault

Quote:
In July 2012, Dominique Perrault Architecture won a competition to transform France's biggest post office into a mixed-use municipal and commercial facility. The Poste Centrale du Louvre (Central Post Office of the Louvre) was built between 1880 and 1888.

What in the name of hell are you talking about. Most Parisians are wealthy and have fairly large apartments. Slums? The closest thing to a slum in Paris is a gypsy trailer camp.

Don't be like the Finns with their complexes of being a Russian ex-governorate, with two and a half nice buildings in the capital, and even those were probably build by the Alexanders I, II or III...

Indeed. Sadly Paris is destroying its lovely classical roofscape just as Vienna did already...

A really bad decision for one of the few true "horizontal metropolises".

what he is trying to say is that the London slum is the reason why the historical London peak was higher than the Paris peak.
it's not a matter of urban planning but about how many people living in each unit. for example there could live up to 20 people in a single 2-storey wooden house in the slum of my hometown Stavanger in 1880, but today these houses barely have room for a family of three. The population density was equivalent higher back then.

La Defense Building First All-Residential Project in 30 Years

Quote:
Situated just west of Paris, La Défense is Europe's largest business district with 3.5 million square metres of office space. Founded in the late 1950s with the construction of the architecturally striking CNIT, an exhibition centre dedicated to the French industry, the neighbourhood rapidly developed around its notorious 30-hectare pedestrian-only esplanade. Today, approximately 10,000 people live around the concrete pad, which sits mostly empty after the region's 180,000 office workers vacate the area each day. To remediate to the lack of housing in the precinct, developer Nexity Residential is currently building a residential-only edifice, marketed as Skylight, a first for La Défense in more than 30 years.

What's with the obsession with bashing London when ever someone says something negative about Paris? To the commentator above, the Scandinavian cities you mentioned are beautiful. I wish people would stop this city versus city bashing and concentrate on the reason for the page.

Sir, you have an enormous butthurt, and I strongly encourge you to chill out.
If you are so close-minded to say that Scandinavian architecture has zero value because it's too young then well, I don't think anyone could discuss with you on a sane level, and I guess that even obvious arguments are not gonna reach you. There is plenty information about the architecture in scandinavian countries on the internet, well, have a look, read and watch some stuff there and try to be not so biased.
It pretty much have the same spectrum of historical architecture as the other continential countries in Europe, starting in middle ages with quite a uniqe Scandinavian style.
But even if you had right, don't chill your ass so tense, man.

Guys, Value judgments are subjective. - Carl Menger.

There is no objectively beautiful city. Also not in Scandinavia. Everyone likes something else.

Anyway that is not the subject of this thread.
jeromekern don't you see that you are embarassing all French forumers here ? Why so much hatred ? You look like an over nationalist biggot, on an international thread, the most visited of the section despite the small French community in SSC. Plenty of people from everywhere visit that thread and don't want to see this . So stop that please. Go spread your ignorance about others cultures elswhere.
