Very Serious. The tower has financial backing and site clearing and preparation will begin this year. Construction starts in 2007.

Seriously, I hope that this tower will be cancelled. I think that this tower is just not the style of Chicago. Chicago can be modern and keep his american style too, like with the Mandarin Oriental, the Waterview and the InterContinental Hotel (three beautiful towers).

But I hated it more before that I have seen this picture on Emporis today.

there is not a thing like chicago style. chicago has skyscrapers with different designs/styles. to me chicago represents american architecture though - european skyscrapers are different. and asian aswell. I think the fordham spire fits more into an asian city or even europe. having said that I'm sure chicago will look great with a tower like that. I'd get an orgasm, if the city I live in had a proposal like that.

Wow, it's cool to city how many people not from Chicago are excited about this project. Gives me a fuzzy feeling inside.

People will always be afraid of change but in 20 years time it will become just as much a part of Chicago's style as any other of its towers

Thats how i felt at first...but here in Chicago, a lot of buildings had a lot of bad criticism . Take for example the Sears tower. It took a few years for people to appreciate its beauty. Now, we would never trade that building for the world.

The Fordham Spire will take years for people to appreciate its beauty. Why? Well people are not use to change anywhere u go, even here in Chicago where the skyline is constantly growing. This building is going to reshape our already beautiful skyline. It might take a couple years for some, but when that building is completed, people will fall in love.

The best part is its location...right in the middle of our skyline making it the "center piece". Take for example the CN Tower in Toronto. The Toronto skyline looks akward because of the CN Towers' odd location. But would Toronto be Toronto without that tower?

lol...i swear ive been tryin to figure that one out for years?!

People that dont live in our city dont understand that the "Chicago Style" is a style of taking risks....taking architectural risks since 1889.

I guess all of you think i am wrong now, but its just my opinion. I dont think its good-looking in fact its even a bit ugly. Its just too much and with that huuuuge spire that doesnt seem integrated in the tower.. ok, just my opinion, its really tall though which is good

It's not the American style. I already explained that in the reply that you quoted.

And I think that calatrava doesn't have imagination anymore. He made a beautiful and innovative building with the Turning Torso, but all his new towers have the same concept. (The Fordham, his Torres de Calatrava in Valencia, and probably others that i don't remember now)

But Borto is probably right. I will probably love it during or after his construction.
