New Domestic Terminal
Images of what the new domestic terminal building at Christchurch is going to be like. I think what makes CHC great is the way the domestic and international terminals will be joined by a common checkin area. This will continue to be one of the airports strengths by making the passengers transfers from domestic to international and vica versa a seamless experience. I look forward to more images and the photos when (I) we can get them.
Thanks to the super sluth who found these - you know who you are The new intergrated domestic terminal is designed by Warren&Mahoney of Christchurch in conjuntion with the work done by and with Hassell Pty of Melbourne. Project Value - $175,000,000. Completion - 2009. Construction - started Janurary 2006. The project will include: New car parking building. New approach roads. New combined international and domestic check in. New baggage handling. New secreening installations. Much improved retail and lounge facilities. Provide for airline and passanger growth capacity till 2014. ![]()

From what I can work out - 8, with three of them being swing airbridges that can be adapted for domestic/international usage on demand. Will check out for sure though!

Cool thread David
. I can see now that Christchurch International is really taking off, but is the new terminal going to be both International/domestic in an intergrated terminal or seperated terminals. But yeah, this is a pretty cool thread, get all the good pics of the airport here too .

Glad you're enjoying it, I'm keeping a watch on Townsville The terminal is all one big building. Christchurch has always had an intergrated domestic/international terminal. Each being distinct within the same building but in harmony. This is set to continue with the redevelopment plan for the new domestic side which will complement the $120 million international redevelopment. The airport campus is huge - and well protected from any development that would affect it's 24 hour operation. When they need to expand the terminal again to meet traffic growth, it will not be a problem, it's developing in a horseshoe shape, with the international wing folding down the right as you look at the present building, and the domestic folding down the left.

that fish is so freaky!!
It's true they, they don't do much in that tank. Do you think they would have stuff like this in the Antartic and Natural History museum in the city if it is built? seems it would be doubling up on stuff. it would be good for visitors in the city and help with the revitalisation. |

for smaller airports integrated terminals are the best for they cut down on wasted amenities and space. good to see all the work

Low Fares Boost Passenger Numbers At CIA
International travellers have been snapping up the low fares on offer on the Tasman route in greater numbers than ever before, creating a strong tourism shoulder season in the South Island region.
May passenger figures released this week show an 11% increase in passenger movements on the Christchurch Tasman route compared with the same period last year. Celebrating six months since the airline entered the New Zealand market, Jetstar CEO Alan Joyce said the low fares carrier has made a big impact. “Travellers have been flocking to take advantage of our readily available low fares, particularly with regards to our latest two for one sale which proved to be our most successful to date. Christchurch is our first expansion into international routes, and with encouraging load factors so far, we’re particularly happy with our choice of destination,” he said. “The low cost airline model, based in Christchurch, is great for South Island businesses and opens up travel options for a greater number of people,” said Christchurch International Airport CEO Rene Bakx. “As well as the 12,500 New Zealanders travelling on low cost carriers to Australia each month, an average of 13,400 international visitors use the low cost services on the Tasman route to Christchurch, feeding a significant proportion of South Island tourism”. Pacific Blue airlines NZ Manager, Jo Wedlock, agrees. "The entire Pacific Blue model is geared around stimulating a new market of people to travel by the introduction of low fares. We're not interested in simply moving market share around between airlines. We want people who have never flown before to think 'wow, at that price I'm going to take a holiday'. It’s about growing the market overall, and that obviously has a direct flow on effect to boost tourism, the business economy and overall money into the South Island".

I'm guessing their service is just the same as Virgin Blue's (The a/c are the same, i've flown on the Pacific Blue a/c on Virgin services before). I've flown them many times. Friendly service, good looking flight attendants. You have to pay for everything. If you want decent legroom, get an emergency exit or front row. Any of the rows behind the emergency exit get worse & worse for legroom as you go back. All in all, you get what you pay for i suppose.

Plans are for it to get alot bigger aswell so it can cope with 9 million passengers a year. Looking real good pity I dont live up north anymore well actually not really but I used to fly in there about 6 times a year now its just a 3 and a half hours drive.
