Brentford, Great West Road (West London) images

This is the area where A4 and M4 out of London splits. Unfortunately the M4 is a flyover, so it ruins the area a bit. Looks great from the road though

Starting with the view from my flat on Brentford Lock. GSK in the middle and you can see the top of GW2 (Great West House) to the right:

Various views of GW2:

Note the fasade on the left side:

On the other side of the A4 we got The Mille:

West of the Mille is the GSK building (GlaxoSmithKline).
This whole building is part of GSK:

See how it reflects the sky:

Some great details on these 2 images:

West of GSK, over the Union Canal we got Profile West House (Morse HQ):

All these rest images I believe is part of a cheap student/workers accomondation development.

Another core is rising:

These look real cheap. Looks like they just stack ready made flats on top of each other...:

Fantastic pics. Thanks. Didn't realise there was so mnuch activity going on out there (although it has been 12 months since I did the Heathrow run)

Great West House is obviously a refurb/reclad. There was a few empty and vadalsied towers out there for a time. Scrubs up nicely, innit!

Always liked GSK HQ.

Thanks for sharing these pics. This part of London is not very much covered by the army of London photographers

Glad you like them

Btw, the GSK Building is 71 meters. The Great West House was 60 meters before it's refurb, not sure what the new height is. Roof used to be flat I think.

Here is an image of what the student accomondations will look like when finished:
http://www.emporis.com/en/il/im/?id=413669

Also, Audi will be building their new HQ in this area, right beside the M4 on a site where a building called the Lucozade building ( http://www.ukexpert.co.uk/photopost/...php?photo=8004 ) currently stands. The Audi HQ will only be 6 storeys though.

On the image above the fantastic GSK sky reflection, you can in the background see the Gillette Tower, between the GSK and Profile West House. I also see this tower from my flat, looks really nice at night:

Excellent pictures. I like the drive into London on the M4, these are the first real tall buildings that you encounter and they are so close to the motorway. There are quite a few redundant buildings there too, any idea about when they are going to be replaced?

brentford is fairly colse to me. you missed the dragon estate towers, they have a massive impact on the brentford skyline also...

also down towards the river the boat community is cool too, i have a friend who lives on a boat there.

My nearly hometown... I was dragged up in Chiswick (the Brentford End)

Does anyone else remember the Martini clocktower before it burned down? There's also quite a large (reclad) midrise overlooking the A4 / M4 closer to Chiswick... Its a sort of crappy bluish postmodern design. Might be called Flyover House, but I could be totally wrong.

(Side view, the building behind the new clocktower)

Agreed with Mr Muff about the Brentford Towers Estate on Green Dragon Lane, they're huge on the skyline, especially with the victorian water tower at the Steam Museum.

Brentford Towers loom behind Griffin Park. There are 6 in all:

This building was recently used to film the music video for a band (cant remember who). I couldnt work out where it was at first cos it was filmed at night. You can clearly see the flyover in it as well as all the surrounding buildings.

I've seen a video for a Hard Fi song and I'm sure its filmed on one of those buildings as I distinctly recognise the area.

Tubeman: it definitely got another name. I remember when I first saw that one from around Kew Bridge, it looked fricking huge. But when getting close it's not longer very impressive. It has even got its own website, but I can't remember the name at the moment, though I see this building when going to work every day...

embe: driving on the M4 is definitely very cool in that area. I often ride my Harley there and can almost FEEL the buildings

That's the one. It was reclad circa 1990 I seem to recall.

I'm pretty certain it was named 'Flyover House' up until the reclad, but yes its definitely 'Vantage West' now.

Neon-lights on GW2

A new feature was added to the Great West House ('GW2') this week, neon lights
My image did not get very good, but if you get a chance to see it in real I think you will be amazed

GSK on the left there. Image taken from my bedroom

Here is an update from Brentford and the GWQ development (Great West Quarter: http://www.gwq-london.com/ ):

Wallis House:

Demolition of Westgate House:

And a hole in the ground on the other side of A4/M4. Not sure what will be going up there:

Amazing, cheers for the West London update! I've always loved Wallis House and was horrified to see scaffolding creeping up it last time I was on the M4. Thank god it's being renovated!

Hey! I must have missed this thread....yes I remember it! It was the only 1930's American style petrol station in the country till it was burned down by hooligans...I grew up in Hounslow. My brother lived on the 10th floor of Cornish house (Green Dragon Estate) till he brought his own place. Great views of naked people in the other blocks I recall.
